Wagon progress!

here is the problem...theres litteraly dozens of combos..you need the right "full set"....best i can tell you to do is keep mixn and matching till youve got the right set....ive got buckets of pulleys...even the brackets change what set you need

I have the brackets, the crank pulley I need has the smaller inner groove and the larger outer. From what I've seen there's only a couple combinations of non-A/C pulleys. I'll see what I can find on OE part numbers.

Did the 440 that came in the wagon have all the correct pullies, or were they missing? And you are now trying to mix and match from pulleys you had in stock?

I am eliminating the factory A/C compressor for a low mount unit. I need non-A/C pulleys for that setup. I have one of these I am going to use on this car. Just because I have it and I want to! :burnout:

thats just it..you can still use the pulleys ..you just need a different belt....i run the ac dual belt setup on my cuda with NOTHING except an alt..yup double belted alt and fan

Not sure, but they do sell the correct pulleys and since I've already purchased the correct non-A/C brackets I'm going that way. Bouchellion wants about $140 for the pulleys. Hopefully tomorrow I can find a big block Mopar in the JY with the correct parts.

Mixing and matching is futile unless you're pulling them off engines. Small-block and big-block have the same water-pump bolt pattern and crank damper pattern (though B/RB changed one bolt hole, I believe in '73, but that's an easy fix with a rat-tail file), but there are several variations and offsets of both kinds of pulleys.

Don't even mess around with pulleys until you have brackets with all the accessories mocked to the engine, and can see how far off you are with what you've got now. My advice would be to call Douchillon and ask them what pulleys you should be using with those brackets. They will almost certainly get you the right parts.

The worst pulley nightmare I ever endured was my Trans Am. There are three variations of brackets and pulleys for the 400; one of them is a half-year-only deal (1969?). I had parts from all three, lucky me. There were a disgusting amount of shims and flatwashers in that arrangement to keep things aligned, but it made the alternator mount a bit flimsy and I still had belt noise/loss problems. I eventually got it mounted more solidly, but the washers and shims remained.

It comes down to how much your time and aggravation are worth.

Try doing what I did on the waGOON, move the AC compressor to the alternator location, move alternator below AC compressor with an idler pulley between them to keep good belt contact, adapt SB power steering pump to RB then install idler pulley in normal AC location to clear water pump.

And that's a dual belt system as original.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that you're gonna need to post pics of that. I'm trying to visualize it but it's just not working.

i did something similar on a small block a body..where the AC went where the alt was..alt got mounted into the "low" point for the PS and the PS used a truck mount for it to be a high mount PS....it all used stone stock parts...mostly from trucks

I'd like to see pics of that setup myself 68.

I figured out my problem, crank pulley is for a small block, water pump pulley is correct. I can buy the pulley I need, I just don't want to spend $70 plus shipping to get it.

You've seen it, shortly after I got it together, at the Beeper get-together. But I s'pose I hafta get pics ta show everyone. :(

OK, here they are. All this work was done because I wanted to retain the working AC and fit it under the hood.

I don't remember that car being at the White Trash Nats. In fact, I was pretty certain I've never seen it in person.

Wow...that is one busy accessory set-up, but I sure like it! :2thumbs:

Guess you have to run an electric fuel pump then....;)

The way it sounded your memory of that whole weekend is probably slim. :naughty:

It was there. He took us out and showed us this belt set up and some cast iron welding he had done on it.
