1967 dart

what all are you planning on doing prior to actual paint?...i personaly cant see doing much as i wouldnt want the new gut smelling of paint nor would i want oversparay on trim and new suspension parts

brake lines... fuel lines.....install engine/tranny, glass/dash frame... door seals .... get some of the wiring harness figured out and installed.
get other things sorted out so i am 100% sure it will all go together before all the exterior paint is complete.

Paint the interior parts and have it ready to install all the soft parts.

The idea is to get everything basically installed because with the car sitting in the shop and having to move it in and out numerous times is just asking for a scratch/dent. The shop i do most of the work in has to have machinery coming in and out throughout the year. The old shop that the dart currently resides is horrible to work in.

There are clowns who bring their machinery to our (dad and me) shop to get repaired and ram into things to get them out of their way .... no care as to what it may be. Things are constantly coming and going from combines to tractors to crazy ideas.

trim pieces will not go on as per the paint issue

Greenwood has a down draft booth. With some proper masking there won't be much overspray on anything.

I gotta ask - why no paint in the trunk compartment?

never really thought about painting the trunk area.

Ok i was trying to install some of the body plugs tonight. I bought the kit from year one. I have plastic plugs and rubber ones. Where do the rubber ones go and where do the plastic ones go? I think i figured the trunk out. I have a hard time getting the rubber plugs pushed in and i have some big holes that dont have a plug in the kit. So i will likely have to go dig out the old plugs to fill those holes in. Underneath the car there are a few holes that i believe a plug should be in as well. hmm

anyone have an answer?

here is a picture of the plugs i have left.

the two on the top left i believe to be the trunk extension panels drain plug

the bottom left i ran out of holes (used some from the pile i had in boxes)

the last three is where it gets tricky. The bottom two i believe will go over top the rear wheels (but i have 4 holes) more digging later

The top one on the right is a mystery plug. It has a hole in it as if a wire goes through it.

I want to say that the mystery plug goes on the firewall somewhere.
I say that not just from the fact that it looks like a wire goes through, but from a vague recollection of having to deal with one in the past.

I'll keep digging in my brain, but it will likely come to me when I'm no longer thinking about it... :shifty:

I'm starting to think of a cable of some sort. Not an electrical cable of wires, but a mechanical push/pull cable of some sort.

The speedo cable, but how it's supposed to fit over the ends, I don't know.

The 2 larger D shaped plugs go in the lower quarter inners. They get installed with the flat side up to allow moisture drainage thru the "seep" hole on the bottom.

The 2 rubber plugs look like trunk floor plugs.

yup yup and yup

as for the speedo..the plastic end pops off......and right back on

ok at this moment i believe i have all the plugs in the correct locations

So i started doing a bit more seam sealing on all the joints then got side tracked on the brake lines.

Have not took any pics but i have the front brake lines hooked up to the viper disk brakes on the front and the rear line ran to the back. Just need to mount the rear line a bit better in a few places.

Saving for parts at this moment. The parts fund got robbed to pay the lawyer :(, but hopefully it is all solved for 10 years or so

I painted the dash frame black today, clear coat tomorrow.
Did a bit of cleaning the door window mechanisms

Should get back to finish all the seams later in the week.

I pulled the steering column apart and cleaned it all up and changed the bearings. Painted .

I just have to do the steering wheel at some point in time. The column still sits on the floor.

I have been hunting for the bolts for the dash frame. If i remember right most of them were missing to begin with. so i pulled them from the other car but now cant find where the hell i set them ... *bangs head on table*

Does anybody have any clue what they look like?

i can promise they were missing or wrong.....so you had to grab some from something else

i just came across my car photo albums so i found the pics from the day me and fishy brought it home!

Your talking about the ones that hold the frame to the inside of the window frame? They are sually a 3/8 hex head, with a captured washer, and the threads are about 3/4" long and end in a point. I'll go dig in one of my buckets of bolts and see if I can find one similar and post up a pic.

I think he is talking about the one attaching the steering column to the the underside of the dash which should be about 2 1/2" long with a capture washer that is kind of flower petal shaped.
