69 Barracuda FB. The next evolution

You tried a lot harder than I did - me, a hammer, a vise, and a piece of pipe. I used 3/4", probably hot water gauge, and it worked great. Nothing wrong with doing more though.

A12 - time to get busy

I didn't imagine I wouldn't mount the front runners when I changed to long studs out for stock length. I got two lugs started before I decided it ain't worth the exit. Those are long shank open ended lugs that fit pretty danged tight in the wheel holes. I decided to take it easy on myself and...

The 400 in my duster (same engine compartment as a 69 cuda) fit OK on the drivers side. It came with T-handles in all the VC bolt holes except the rear corners so I would sneak a 1/4" swivel in there to unbolt it. The driver's side VC would come out with a little forethought (stock rockers)...

My 71 Duster work in progress

The timing was set at 22, so set it back to 15 like it should be then set the idle to about 700. Fixed. I don't know what I was thinking about - I need to check the curve again, to make sure it's set like it should be - I've got one of these in it How to limit mechanical advance in a mopar...

Today's task after trying to fix the Duster's timing deal is to get the road runner on tires again, then on skates. Really looking forward to beating the hell out of that torsion bar one more time. Once that's done I'm going to try to clean, organize, etc so the car is not in front of the door...

It's the oil that does it. Brake fluid is mostly alcohol. Find a piece of 3/4" water pipe and hammer it flat. You can clamp it or you can use the other end like a handle to hold it in place where you can't. Um, I guess I'm too late.

My 71 Duster work in progress

I got the Duster out today, brought it over here and while turning it in, made full lock and the horn started blowing, wouldn't stop. You know what that is, there's a wire pinched or something grounding the relay. I got it silenced, then went under the Grant wheel cap and found the dumb spring...

And another POV That three stones of death that UT is waving around is about a third of the price of a dingle ball https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/performance-tool-3-stone-engine-cylinder-hone-2-to-7-range-50.8-177.8mm-220-grit-3-stones-w80560/11957851-P

Lake Speed Jr. seems like a goofball to me but there it is. I don't think I really have much if any x-hatch left but there's no ridge at all, just a dark ring around the top where the rings never went. If 3 or 4 things go right for me I'll be able get it going again with a ball hone, a little...

I wish I would've hunted and killed all the excess holes in my car before paint but I didn't. That's one of my lessons learned similar to you and the parts washer 😖

I'm finally getting over a cold so I'm ready to go back at it. Currently I'm thinking that if a dingleball hone will clean up the scuffing in that one cylinder and the piston cleans up OK, then I'm just going to freshen this thing up and go with it. It was running fine when it was pulled...

+.030 I've got another 440 block - also +.030 and laying around in the gararge for 20 years or so. I have a feeling I might be going to .040 before this is oever with. Also, the crank is standard on the rods, +.010 on the mains. I haven't taken the crank out yet but did pull the thrust cap...

Well, I knew it was coming. One damaged piston, with matching scuffs in the cylinder. Photos later.

I took a few photos of the cam/lifters The lifters show their age Heckuva reflection on the next one but it shows the tiny black dots. Dig that perfect circle in the middle. It's on all of them but not this obvious. The cam's supposed to be a purple shaft .509. I haven't stuck a mic...

Both heads are apart. I still need to clean and scrutinize both but they seem to be in similar usable condition. I took some photos of the chamber in the 915 vs the 346. I don't think there was any real "porting" going on (yet) but they definitely did the 3-angle plunge cut yada yada that all...

One head is apart. All guides passed the "pop!" test. The compressor rules once I figured out to try to center the valve stem in it even though it's damned hard to see it so it's a do by feel sort of thing .... Yes, these heads have been worked a little bit The others were the same, intake...

Valve compressor will be here today, so hopefully more will be known tonight. Noticed this on the crank, looks like it was stamped? Last rebuilt in ... I gotta look at that bearing again. Hard to believe it's standard size. The other side - nothing you can catch your fingernail in That...

All that matters is the welds are strong enough. Plus you're welding with flux and haven't cleaned up those welds at all in the photos. They're fine.

I stuck my head up on break and find that the riveted compressors aren't going to work and that is all the parts stores have. Thinking about buying this Pardon Our Interruption Can't say for sure if that's enough to do the trick. I really don't want to take them to the machine shop where...
