tiny...aka 1958 lloyd

the differance between a stock grant GT center button (not the assembly but the replaceable center for whatever make you want) and the lloyd center button was less than .25mm...so it was a clean and simple fit...the buttons i had to cut all of the retaining ring and "square" edge(to keep em from rotating) off to fit in the holes and get em sitting where i wanted...but the fit is so tight i thought i was going to break them

being they light up...and there LED i will see when there on and no longer need a dash indicator

nothing real special here.....however the brake mount is ruff welded in and theres 3 adjustment points should i not like where the brakes are sitting...the pedals are going to be re designed almost entirely from scratch(everything from the pivot to the pad)

also i butchered down the column ..still needs cleaned up and "skinned" but no more lock cyl hang off

i will probably mock up the MC's and start running new brake lines tomaro...should have working brakes and clutch by monday

looking pretty sweet bro! and that hood ornament is friggin sweet!!! Cant wait to see more pics!! :2thumbs:

well i went and hit the local paint shop today to scope some prices on candy...wife wanted out of the house and went along with me ...but stayed in the car....i was also picking up some flex aditive for a bumper job for the guy next door

after looking thru the swatches of candys i was drooling and lost...the orange i had wanted was "off" and didnt feel right...some greens and purples were poping up.....

wife got bored and came in..im flipping thru it and she says this one this one or this one.....we dig thru the 3 and deem 2 to be just wrong for the size and lines

settled onto "house of kolors" UK-16 magenta kandy ......its a SEXY color..almost a wild lipstick and nail polish ...not quite pink...not quite red, not quite purple but a ground in the middle

now that said..i poped open the quart here at home and about fell over...it looked like a can of thin blood with a pinkish hue....used a stir stick to spread it around in the lid and it just danced in the daylight..its not sunny outside but its not overcast...wiped some paint on ruffed scrap of aluminum to simulate the mack truck silver it will be going over....let it dry up some and walked thru the house..every light in the house had a different effect on the color..even the shop fluorescents played tricks with it...i used the piece of aluming and ran it up the side of the body and over the body lines...its got a pearlesque feel to the way the light bends the color from black red to sexy pink..all the while staying metallic..........my wife didnt pick a winner..she picked the sexiest thing she could

mid day tomaro im going to try and get some pic's of how the color looks ...im stunned

am i ready for paint...no but i figured grabbing a quart of candy to play with to get an idea and feel for it in advance was a wise move..coure it was 60$ for the quart and another 30$ for the hardner(but that quart could probably paint atleast half the car LOL)

FISHY remember the pic's of the 73 chally we had in AMC pink metalic?...it dances all around and right thru that color

well the cowl is ruffed out and fully welded to the windshield frame/firewall...the shape is right..but i need to make a few slits in it for some fine tuning to the arch......yes the gap to the hood is totally screwy right now ...but i settled on a point to use as a reference for a "new" line

got sick of looking at the rust half of the hood..and cleaned it up...mostly

the cowl to fender section went off without much issue...wasnt easy...it looks and seems to be close to a perfect match to the other side..gauged it out and its within 1/16th of an inch so i dont think its noticeable

not happy with where the brakes were as well as steering column alignment issues i ripped it all out and started over...the result works out at the right hight, good column alignment, tilt and tele working(ignore the wheel its not staying)

a nice pair of comparative shots of the right and left cowl to body...mostly taken as a second set of eyes looking at the body...cameras have a way of sometimes showing what you cant see..or hiding what you think you see

after dark..and still restless wanting to work some more i started doing the 1 inch stitches on the cowl and the driver fender...all done and ready for cleanup

someone a while back asked about the hood angle...i glanced at it tonight admiring my work...and in awe of what ive created and the direction its all going..simply stunned....it hit me....ohh shit the hood is at the wrong angle and is higher in the front than the back.....so i jacked up the front of the car so that the car was dead nuts LEVEL.....so i put a level on the hood...as you can see i had to move a roll of electrical tape pretty far back to get the level in a level position..proving the hood is NOT at the wrong angle..its just the eyes and camera playing with things..................but since the eyes do like to see it that way i "might" take a wedge out of the hood to drop the nose of it say 1-2 inches...but i doubt it

cowl FULLY welded to the framework

heres some "indoor" with flash shots of the KANDY smeared on a piece of aluminum.....the camera and the light in here makes it look VERY pink....its more purple and MUCH deeper looking...ill try for some daylight shots as soon as we get another good sunny day....tho by then i will probably have a swatch of mack truck silver with the kandy actually sprayed on

as you see the lip over at the cowl and windshield frame is not bad and ive a nice piece of aluminum trim that slips right into it.....im also contemplating extending the rain gutter lip down onto the fender..which will all but make the area dissappere ..possible with a piece of tubing to give me a drain

next up...front and rear fender gap fill sections..hand bent like the first one...3 down 5 togo

hood is finish stitched and ready for re-enforcement braces and finish welding

first 2 shots...i couldnt help myself...ive got an OLD dodge ram hood ornament of unknown year(pulled it off a 75 dodge PU LOL)

3rd shot is just to show the "stock" lloyd trim aluminum in place to see how well it covers the seam and where a "factory" emblem would go..."if" i can find the one i want...search isnt doing well atm

back to the fender issue i hadnt explained ...heres the issue..ive talked it thru with resto for some assurance before i dove in..............ive made measurements in X from multiple points on the car front to rear..and theres no reason for it as everything comes up square and the same length(passenger side needs 1/8th inch more gap drivers side needs more than 1/4 inch)..but the drivers side door is literally missing its gaps to align..let alone close and open...so i needed to figure out how to resolve it....only way to do so is to slice open the front fender and section it back a lil more than 1/4 inch....

a trick i found when i was setting the hood to fender gaps was to stack grinder wheels to get the right width..2 was perfect for the hood gaps(same width as a paint stir stick)....in this case i needed the thickness of 4...but i knew if i stacked 4 it was not going to cut straight and was going to be a nightmare to keep going well....so i cheated..and used to completely used disc's as spacers between 2 new disc's..giving me the EXACT gap space i was missing...

shot of the setup

shot of the "test cut"

and a shot of the sliced fender

new camera has a MUCH more realistic color

passenger fender gap straight and stitched
starting to fill in the stitching of the wheel well raise
bear claw latches deep in the center of the side of the door to give a "cleaner" look and feel
striker perfectly placed WITH adjustment
another shot of the latch from the inside
new belt trim holes drilled and a test fit..ignore the appearance of misalignment..its that the trim isnt pushed all the way on

floor cleaned up real nice

engine shot..note the 4 hood pins...this was the ONLY way i could keep the hood aligned and remove it to start building up areas for hinges and such

note the washers on the hood align the 4 hood pins to perfection

more floor cleanup shots

wish i could have linked these 2 pic's for a full side shot..alot of full welding done and ALOT of cleanup

i spent some of the day bending up new brake and clutch lines in "hope" of having the drive shaft before the show..either way it would be nice to have brakes for pulling it off the trailer..ive also dug out my 4 old 70 caddy door lock popers(strongest units ever built!!!) and have installed the passenger unit..door pops out and open cleanly about 3 inches

as it stands, before the show, i want to get the driver door latch in place and working, steering column mounts fully welded and supported and get the brakes plumbed and fully functional....anything past that will be bonus material...show is on the 14th...me and the wife are headed to the beach for 2 days around the 8th for our aniversery mom has a DR appt in the first week and we have to get the dog in for grooming and shots before the beach as well.....sooooooo im strapped HARD for time
