Let's tear down!!!

KYB and Bilsteins are prety much the same thing other than the price. As long as you are buying the KYB Gas-A-Just your getting the same shock as the Bilstein. They share the patent. I have KYB on all of my stuff. Love them in all cases.
Jeez... didn't I just read that a few posts back? :D

theres a few different billys tho...so i KNOW they arnt all the same as kyb

personaly gimmy a billy or a koni any day...and i dont mean the "stock" replacement billys but atleast 1 uprate..dont get me wrong ive installed and ran the kybs and like em plenty..but when it comes to carving...thats when they have drawbacks
Actually, they are the same. I've had cutaways of every popular shock brand and their various options in my hands except Konis. Gabriels are junk, Monroes are junk, Ranchos are rebranded Monroes, KYB and Bilsteins are the same at every level at which they have competitive shocks, and I have no reason to believe Konis are any different than either of those monotube designs internally.

huh.....even the dial adjuster type where you have an adjuster hanging off the side or out the top?...

in the euro world theres much of an argument over billys vs konis vs sachs...sachs being :stock" koni useualy being a sport factroy option with dial adjusters useualy..

I was looking around, and I found a link to a story in one of the Mopar Mags where they had 15" wheel centers installed in 17" hoops. That looks like the way I'm gonna go. My S/C centers in 17X9" fronts and 17X11" rears. Gonna call tomorrow and get a price. :)

Evidently Stockton wheel can only perform that service if it's for a Magazine, not specifically a Mopar Mag, I was mistaken. Here is a link to the article

So I will not do business with them.

Problem is there aren't many 16", wide performance tires. Looks like I will be having my rims modified for now, but there are no wide 15" speed rated tires either.

When the car is almost done, and the new motor is installed 17" wheel is going to have to be the minimum diameter. It doesn't matter if I don't spend a lot of time at triple digit speeds, but when the urges and opportunities meet I don't want to worry about my tires.

235/60/15 is the widest I saw.

PepBoys and BFG make the sizes I want 245/60/15 & 295/50/15, but they are only S speed rated. 15's are going away like 13's and 14's have for the most part. Not a real big selection in 16's either.

try discount tire instead..they carry prettty well every brand..personaly id call them and find out what the widest fastest tire they have/can get in a 16 is

Discount Tire has 255/60 and 275/60's, not what I want. I'll probably go with the Pep Boys tires in the sizes I want, they're cheaper.

New master installed and pics of the big front brakes, still have to run down some good pads, but I'll throw some cheap ones on there for now. Tried a truck master first, bore was too big, that one is from a Diplomat. Once I get the pads installed I'll toss on the rollers and prep the motor & trans for install. Cant wait!!!:giggedy:

going a lil smaller to get the speed rating you want isnt a bad thing...untill you can go 17's....and when you do go 17s i have 2 tires ive litteraly fallen in love with..both in look and grip
azenis RT615K...i currently run the ONLY 14 they make in these and im sold on the ability alone...ive got another car on 15s that i want these on..size be damned..yes..they are that good
fk452(i think theres also the slightly older 451 still being sold)
once you go 17 you can get the sizes you want

With the motor going into it now I'm not worried about the speed rating, more of the stance and look. As I go forward I'll be working on the suspension and getting that setup. I'm really tired of looking at a big, motionless lump just sitting there, and I really want to drive it.

Hopefully at this pace I'll be able to drive it by the fall.

The tires I have for the Conquest SHP rear rims are 255/55R-16. Unfortunately, the 235/60R-16 size I wanted for the front appear to be on intergalactic backorder. :(

I'll just narrow my wheels so they fit, no need to spend any additional cash on something that will swapped or upgraded in the future.

Well nothing that isn't safety related anyway.

I would try and put hands on a couple of sample production hoods first. My friend has one of their hoods on his Challenger, and he freakin' hates it. The rear edge sucks, the cowl vents were a disaster, and as is typical of fiberglass, it took a lot of time filling, blocking, guide coating, and repeating to get it straight. He got the cowl vents to look OK from the outside, but with the hood open they look like crap. He wishes he would've just bought a steel one. AAR is generally considered the best, and his is several years old so quality may have improved. Still, fiberglass is fiberglass so expect to work or have it worked quite a bit.

I would rather AMD produce a steel hood, however since they haven't, and no one is sure they even would, though the demand is there as seen by prices of beat up used stuff. Best price I've seen thus far is $600, for a rusty hood with hood pin holes drilled in the wrong place. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, so I'll take a another look at them next year when I go to Carlisle, not going to make it this year unfortunately. I looked at their 'Bee, Challenger and 'Cuda hoods last year, underneath is a fiberglass hood, but everything else looked pretty good.

I wonder what the cost difference would be to have your wheels altered...as opposed to getting new ones? I'm thinking of the 17" steelies. Hotrod magazine has had a 66 Buick they brought back from the dead, and recently upgraded the whole suspension with pro touring stuff. They went with Wheel Vintiques 17" rims.

Here's a link to that article....

God, I had the term "Pro Touring", as well as "Pro Street". Neither are "pro" since no one makes money at them except parts sellers.

Since we're back on the subject of wheels and tires, though, I will say I don't worry too much about speed ratings. I worry myself more with traction, temp, and treadwear ratings. I've never had a tire unravel on me because I drove it well over its speed rating (or for any other reason, for that matter). Seriously, how much time do you really plan on spending above 100MPH? The tires I have for the Conquest rear wheels are T-rated, which will happily withstand a 140+MPH blast now and then. They also have good siping for wet weather use while being Traction A, Temperature A rated for good handling. I don't recall the treadwear rating offhand, but it's a nice balance between grip and wear.

I don't plan on spending much time up there right now, and probably not much time up there when it's done. I know there is a couple local clubs that rent Texas Motor Speedway for the day or weekend couple times a year. Once I get south or west of Fort Worth there are some nice, unoccupied lengths of highway I can open up on extended stretches. That's why I'm going with the 245 and 295's on 15's for now.

I thought about it Cow, but I'm just going to have the rear wheels narrowed 2" and run them. The cost of the Vintiques wheels doesn't justify buying them over aluminum, unless you REALLY want the steelies, and I don't. I couldn't really care less about the haters pointing out the big rims on my car. Besides, not directed at you, it's my car and I'm building it the way I want it to look, on top of that nothing I'm doing isn't easily reversible. Shit, if you can't swap a set of wheels you really shouldn't be driving.

I've been looking for different wheels, I keep going back to the Torq Thrusts and similar styles. Over $1500 for the 17's I want in Foose's Nitrous or the AR Torq Thrust. I found these http://www.ebay.com/itm/230794937112?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 little bigger than I wanted for the front, and overall diameter, but the price isn't bad. 275/35 front 295/35 for the rear matched set of BFG T/A KDWs are less than a grand out the door.

I like these too https://www.yearone.com/Product/wheels/mrd179k Here's a set mounted on a 1971 Charger.
