I yanked the rear, again, and cut out the rear inner wheel wells. I ordered some stuff so I can narrow my 8-3/4, once that's done I'll send the axles out to get cut down and resplined.

While it's up and square I'm going to do the leaf spring relocation, and add my spring sliders.
 
The wheel wells are cut out, now I'm trying by to decide if I want to just add a strip of metal or just put in new tubs. I don't care if it has the original look, I just want to make sure I have enough room. On the quarter panel side of the wheel well I'm going to slice the hump that impedes tire clearance and beat it flat. I should be able to fit a 28X10.50 slick or a 295/50R15 neatly under there when finished.
 
if it were me..id just add the strip...why pay for a new tub when the money could goto better places besides a strip of sheetmetal will ultimatly be just as strong

Agreed. Unless you're trying to build a magazine cover car, and if you are I suggest using a different body style, an inexpensive strip of sheetmetal gets you where you need to be without assaulting the wallet.

You should've left it small-bolt... I've got these damned Center Lines just sitting around now. :D

Meh, small bolt. All my wheels are big bolt, my 11" wide SC wheels fit perfectly. Put those wheels on yours Doc. :giggedy:

Magazine cover cars cars need paint, a paint job is not in the foreseeable future for this one. Not because I want a rat rod, it's really a financial issue, hell, there are enough trailer queens if someone wants to look at a pretty car. Besides, paint don't make it go, and people feel bad when an ugly car beats them.
 
Oh, hell no. I wouldn't put bigs 'n' littles on anything I own. I hate that look personally. I bought them solely for resale purposes. :D
 
Me too, I watched a G body Cutlass wipe out when he tried to make a turn rolling in a little hot and the pizza cutters he had folded under the weight.

Race only, and only if I'm trailering the car to the track.
 
I'm too paranoid. I don't even like the thought of trying to recover on the strip at triple-digit speeds with contact patches the size of my elbows. :dgt: I can see them on a dedicated drag car, but I have no desire to own such a car. As I did with my Challenger and Trans Am, I prefer to run down the strip in 100% daily-driven configuration. Unless you're selling the car, what fun is an 11-second timeslip if it was gained with slicks, uncorked exhaust, and your 4.88 center section popped in? You can lie about it to others, but you know you can't run that number on the street.
 
Hmmm, shiny! Need to measure my rear to let whomever is going to weld the new ends on how long it needs to be. I will weld the mounts on myself, ends, slightly more critical.
 
I want the street version faster than 11's. And it will be in street configuration. Turbo(s) will make that happen, with relative ease.
 
You're right about the exhaust. It needs to come straight up and have a flapper valve on top. More restrained that way, I'd suspect a diesel..
 
What a hatchet job. One side of the engine has significantly better VE than the other, don't you think? That's about 50% of turbocharging "don'ts" bundled neatly into one photo.
