And then there were 2...

What are the odds that a '66 Barracuda will have the 8-3/4 rear I need?

I'm going to look at one Saturday, and it's complete short of the engine. Odds are it's coming home anyway, but I'm hoping for the rear.

It would almost have to be a 273/4-speed car, and even then it's not guaranteed since a lot of 2-barrel cars were the 7.25". Prior to '68, that axle was like hen's teeth in A-bodies.

I've only seen a couple pics of the car, none are great. I know I can make good money on it one way or another.
Oh yeah.. Early A body v8 parts are worth more than any early A body car.. but you know that.. I've seen your tattoo on other websites..

It's a slanty, with the 7-1/4. Presently on my trailer in my driveway. Poor car lead a rough life, field dweller since '76/77. Prior to that wrecked 3-4 times, one a pretty hard hit to right front corner that also took out the inner fender. That said, most of the trim is in pretty good shape, it has bucket seats, though like most TX cars they're baked to death. The dash is intact, and has the econo meter. I'll part it out.

While i was there he told me of a 340 or 360 four barrel that he had for the car, so I took a quick look, turns out it's a '78 318 with a TQ, $40 later it was mine too. Intake and carb were worth that much to me. I'll refer to that motor as Sludgzilla.

Those back windows are a mixed blessing. It might take you a while to sell it but when you do, whomever needs it will pay dearly to have it. Find a good spot to store it where nothing bad can come to it. If it's not foggy in the corners or along the edges, highlight that in any ads you make. It definitely adds to the value as that seems to be a common issue with early A-body glass.

The hole is in the other fender for it, right there at the top of the impact.

Funny, that fender's been replaced, still has the Commando V8 badge. The inner fender and cowl are damaged from a previous collision. 10 years is all she lasted on the street. There's still the sticker from a high school on the rear glass.

The 318 is from a '78 Volare police car, no idea of the mileage. I saw the TQ and intake and saw the $40 asking price. When we sat the motor on the trailer 2-3 gallons of water poured out of the distributor hole, it could very well be scrap. If so I'll salvage what I can and toss the rest.

Just looking at the intake ports, I can tell you either that's not a cop motor or the heads have been changed. The 318-4V (California and Canada only in '78) used 360 heads. You'll know for sure when you get into the bottom end, though. A cop engine will have a dual-row roller timing chain and a windage tray. It's safe to assume the chain would be junk, but a windage tray is always nice to have around.

It had all the A.I.R. crap on it, I've yet to yank the heads, but they remind me of the 308's from the 360. I admit I didn't look at the port sizes. He said it was a police car, I took his word because of the 4 barrel, and the '78 date on the intake and block. It's presently sitting on a furniture dolly, I'll get back to tearing into it when I finally get some space in the garage.

Until then I must decide what I'm doing with the rear...
