A12 - time to get busy

Yep on the windshield, the first car the guy put in too thick of a foam, trim would not go on, he came back & redid, on the second one I got a guy who knew what he was doing, he came saw the car & said I have the right stuff home I can do it now with no guarantee or come back another time, I opted for the other time, hell do it right the first time!

The building is it for me too, now that it's done it just sits there mostly, gotta find some local cruise ins or something to make it more interesting that a drive around the hood!

We're going to put in a low cost garage-on-a-slab or carport so maybe I will drive the Duster more when it's less hassle to get it out.

We recently bought a low mileage 91 F-150 to go in that same storage.
 
I've replaced several windshields of both the butyl rope and the gaskets. They're both not really difficult, but the main thing to watch is alignment. Perfect center from all sides. The rubber gasketed ones can be a little tricky untill you learn the technique. A spray can of silicone helps. And once set in place you have to fold the gasket "halves" to lock together. They make a plastic tool to do this, but if careful a regular putty knife will work. And PATIENCE, work slow.
 
Gina went to a local glass shop to get a glass shelf cut and found a father/son team interested in doing the headliner and the glass, so yay for her.

I've got to package up and send out two bumpers to Tri City in TN. Shipping is going to be nuts $$ wise. Nobody has a box that big so I guess I will tape them together, throw some bubble wrap around them, then wrap that in cardboard as best as I can.
 
I can't wait to see how much shipping two bumpers is going to cost.

The plater is 4 hours away, surely it wont cost more than just driving there would, right? :unsure:

I want to to say I paid $600 shipping on all the interior parts. Big boxes full of heavy stuff. I don't want to look it up to be sure on the cost because it's too late baby, it's too late.

I don't even want to know how much I've got tied up in it. I paid as much for the car as I did on the One Big Bill that came with paint. o_O

I might add it up once it's all said and done. Probably not. On the other hand at my age and pace of work I might not live to see it done :D

You, and all the parts vendors. I will send the bumpers out Monday, then I need to figure out who gets to restore my steering wheel and wiper motor.

I've already bought the interior parts/weatherstripping and the hard brake and fuel lines. I can still remember how much that cost. 🤷‍♂️

I waited about 8 yrs before I added up the receipts to restore my ragtop. The total was about the same as the value at the time of restoration. But waiting 8 yrs allowed that value to go much higher. That made me feel better. And that value keeps going up. So, it's kinda like owning a piece of land.
 
The bumpers are ready to ship. Shipping to TN wasn't bad IIRC $40 each or something. Straightening and plating is not cheap though. At least I had cores. Those are worth about $500 each.

I could've bought AMDs for less if they were available but I know I wouldn't have been all that happy with them. I bought OER door handles that came pre-scratched, better than scratched and pitted like the ones I've got but still.
 
My door handles were OK, the front bumper was off, I would have had to enlarge the holes on the drivers side mounts to move it back maybe 1/2", I opted to leave it alone, at least it's all shinny & new lookin.
I used to see bumper trucks driving up & down the highway by me , now you have to go out of state, my rear is straight but showing it's age.

I don't know if I wrote about my AMD bumper experience where they sent me two bumpers with identical ~1" saw cuts in one edge. According to the person I finally talked to they had to sort through the boxes to find one that wasn't cut like that.

I got to keep the two defective ones; sold one for $100 and still have the other one and should sell it but never think of it.
 
You haven't lived until you've cleaned out a heater box that seems like it spent it's life with a person with a 2-pack a day habit who lived in East Texas. There's a layer of sand/dust on top of a layer of tar. I sprayed it with Mean Green and it beaded up from the tar. I've got about 4 hours in it and it's still not done.

Debating on leaving the heater core disconnected or buying a new one. Then that turns into a heater core *and* a blower motor which explains why I'm thinking about just leaving it all disconnected.
 
Ahhhh not so bad, mine had 5 or 6 mouse houses in it!

Guess you won't buy my old charger, I've gotten my habit down to a pack & a half, but the wifey also smokes.
Probably could have bought a Hemi 'Cuda with the money we spent on smokes for 50 or so years!

That monkey never got on my back but my wife is another story and she's still going strong. When it started they were cheap but not now. I'm just glad she works so at least that cost is covered.
 
I guess your not totally allergic to it then, I was watching the headliner guy putting it up, sitting about 6 or 7 feet away & he started covering his face with his shirt, I said is that glue getting to you he said no it's the smoke!!!
I said you should have said something & walked away to finish it.
Wonder what he did in the good old smoke filled bars, usually it was like walking through a cloud in those places?
One more reason for me not to travel, you can't smoke anywhere these days!
 
I grew up in a cloud of cigarette smoke.

I understand it's a hassle to smoke today. What I don't understand is why people keep doing it. I mean, walk outside in the pouring rain or snow and cold for that? But I'm not addicted so I'm not supposed to understand it.
 
When you do something for 50 something years it's kind of just part of you, I quit once when the wifey was pregnant with our 1st, lasted almost 2 weeks, one bad day & hit the smoke shop while in route to the next PITA customer!
When folks are over we keep the smoke breaks to our bedroom or outside, thank God none of my kids picked up our bad habit. Growing up I think I had 5 or 6 relatives that didn't smoke, back then I think more did than didn't.
After sucking in oil burner soot, asbestos from removing old boilers (no masks or nothing back then) & every kind of nasty dust & insulation in attics I'm surprised I can still breath.
They picked up meso in a scan about 10 years ago, has not progressed, I just wonder which one will end up being my killer?
