Going to make a couple passes tomorrow night in the boat anchor powered beater. Just for the heck of it since the converter was swapped out. . Still dealing with 5,000ft elevation [smilie=f:(thanks d/a  ) Shall see how it goes. Previous best was a 2.1 60ft (thanks crappy, cheap converter), 9.1 1/8th, and 14.30 1/4 @ 96 on a 5,100ft d/a night, on radials.

New converter flashes at around 3,800. (previous was 2,500 :naughty: ) and the motor has been tinkered with a tad. so im hoping it should do better :gaga:

keep ya posted :xl:

sounds likea shameless excuse for track pictures.

i'll just leave it as a bad night. took me awhile to reply because i ended up having to limp home, last thing i needed was anyone kickin me while i was down. Not that you guys would, but there are guys with not much better things to do that hop boards. Sorry i didnt get back on here. Car is ok, its back together. Nothing quite 'major' but definately enough to kill your night very fast. :doubt: bad night, anyway i'll be back up and racing remotely soon once it starts to cool off any my rear suspension gets swapped out. :doubt:

60ft dropped a 1/10th, and the altitude was up 700ft than last time. with the alt change there was a 2/10th gain, just the slip didnt show it. anyway, pecking away. probably wont pickup until september or so. i might go one time inbetween just for the heck of it, but i'll get there. bah.

hope you still had fun. if you ain't breakin em your not drivin em hard enough.

Likely not here and if they do, I'm sure most of us will jump on them. What did you end up breaking?

Every hotrod has a fuse. Sounds like you found it . :vroom:

That’s the thing about making more power, the week links start popping up. You fix one you find the next, repeat.

night started off with a random coolant leak which we couldn't track down. Mind you this is my daily driver, it NEVER leaked coolant before. So things already weren't looking good when i got there.

Racing in 108* temps at 11pm isn't too much fun, and the car of course doesn't run up to par. I got one good, full pass in. One the slap-stick, or trans linkage..one of the two popped into neutral a split-second after the 2-3 shift scaring the crap out of me and my friend in the stands. Luckily thats all it was, but of course...with the way my luck had already been going. Somehow it happened, its NEVER done that either. I'll have to look into it. The last pass I tossed the waterpump/alternator belt and hit 250* motor temp as i coasted down the return road with it puking its guts out. Drove home leaking from that mystery coolant leak which we did find. a belt that was ripped almost in half at one point. Just a plain bad night, the times showed i was going a tad faster for the air. But I have some tuning to do. I know nothing major, but enough to ruin your night in a hurry. Limped about 25miles home leaking coolant and on a ripped/slipping belt the whole way.

So i was stuck at 14.30 with 5,800ft air. Almost running in Colorado it seems  So it's got low 13 potential, i just need some air that i can ignite. :doubt:

Slap stiks suck. They are about as dependable as a cheap diaper. I raced a dude once and I went from 1st to reverse at 40 mph. not good!

Wowser, sorry to hear you had a bad night but its nice to hear it was nothing major. Bummer to hear about the slapstick too, I have never had a missed shift with one but I will not put blind faith in them any more either :( Hope you get to make a good pass with decent air some time. We have the same problem around here, when you factor in the dry air at 7k it is really like 12k most of the time. If you are going to have fun with your daily driver car it might be wise to have an extra drivetrain sitting around to be installed in case of emergencies.

I hear you on the extra drivetain. Actually as it looks, in 2 weeks ill have a 3,000mile old MP 360short block anda spare 904 to build up.

here's the missed shift. 'uh-oh' was right. scared the $hit outta me. Wore out that Shelby Hertz mustang up until then pretty good though lol

Never had a problem with mine. Of course, I took the factory t-handle off because it kept sticking.

Dang, that looked like a good run up until that point. You were definitely smoking that other guy, too!

progress........

Bummer about the last run Goody...

A missed shift would kill your qtr time, but sounds like you got an indication from the other runs you did?

So whats the deal?

How is the traction?

Would it be worth fitting a couple of ram air tubes ducting from behind the grill to the air cleaner?

Would it be worth running a "cool can' to keep the fuel cooler?

Would it be worth running a Thermoquad for the same reason?

Lastly, what cam and gears are you running, and whats your calcualted comp?

Deal is, is that i need to dial it all in. As far as launch rpm, shift rpm, air door timing, jetting, pump shot, etc, etc, etc. So I'm working on that.

Cool can might be worth it, but i dont really have room for one as of now.

thermoquad? my 650avs is a year old, it should be up to the task and id like to get my $$ worth out of it. there is a small phenolic spacer under it.

cam is a .480lift/280 duration comp hyd. 3.91s. low gear set in the 904. 9.7:1 compression. And a really, really poor rear suspension setup that is going shortly. seems like zero weight transfer and maybe a little spin.

So its not going be at the top of its game overnight, but i'll get it there. The near 6,000ft air doesnt help :doubt:
