There should be a twelve step program for this.. I have a problem.

I've got a manual steering shaft coming for $50 shipped. The question is, do I also want to buy his manual steering box for another $100 plus shipping..

This is the car my Dart sacrificed it's guts to. At least he saved the donor car, but this Dart GT was built last year. If he built a hot rod for himself to enjoy for years, I'd get it. But he took two super clean, stock cars and fucked with them just to sell them eight months later. This is one step above buying cars for the demolition derby in my mind.

I want my motor back now.

That's not a bad price on it, really. See if he'll do $100 shipped, though. That cast-iron, quicker-ratio Flaming River manual box has brought prices back to reality somewhat, but I'm not a fan of adding weight so I grab every factory manual box I can.

it shouldn't be.. All I did was watch cartoons as a kid. Drawing a blank on this one tho

:bwuhaha:

I don't think I've met anyone to date who hasn't seen that cartoon. Probably my favorite Lantz ever.

So, the only pieces that I'm missing for the swap is the v8 centerlink and the motor mount brackets (it turns out the k frames are identical, and even use the same mounts, but different mounting brackets to the motor). I have a v8 centerlink off of a '73 Dart that I got with the BBP brakes and suspension for the Valiant. Anybody know if it's the right shape? If it is, I could cut it and weld it to make it the right length. Then it would just be sourcing those brackets (hint, hint) rebuilding the v8 trans, and Bob's your uncle. Since my 318 is a late '67, it's already got the right timing cover and water pump to match the early A radiator. Oh yeah, I also need time.. Anybody know where I can get some?

I didn't realize there was a difference on the early cars. I know the location of a V8 centerlink, though. The trick is getting to it. If time is on your side, I'll grab the one from the same '66 Formula S that's going to donate its discs to the Valiant.

Time is definitely on my side.. The v8 centerlink has a deeper dip in it to clear the oil pan. I don't plan on having the time or money to do all of this for another year or so. I've got a buddy's dormant Challenger to resurrect, and a Datsun 2000 after that. There's a guy who might be bringing me a Buick GSS also. I've currently got a Porsche 914 squatter that I can't get rid of, and a really nasty Galaxie that needs a full brake system. Plus my real job. Yup, I can wait. I just like to get everything in advance, so I can do it any time I find myself with a light week, or a long holiday. I've got to kill my garage while I swap brakes and suspensions under both my A bodies. Also, that 318 has been sitting dormant since 2004. It's got 112,xxx miles on it, I pulled it apart and the bearings and bores looked factory fresh, so I regasketed the whole thing and stuck it back together, but I'm sure it'll have teething problems. Now that I've learned more about induction, I'll probably do head and manifold work to it before it goes in. Maybe the Hot Rod mag refresh where they got 400 horse out of their 318. More parts to collect.

Well, that Formula S is a 273/4-speed car, so that should be the link you need. It'll be cheap, too.

What's a GSS? I thought that was a Mr. Norm's A-body Mopar. :hmmm:

68 Buick GSS stage 1 with a 455.. I like Buicks.. If I were to have a GM, it'd probably be an early to mid 60's Buick.. But I'd rather work on something Mr Norm breathed on.

Here's my buddy's.. He's super OCD about everything, and not a mechanic. I don't see this one running for two more years. I could have it moving in two days or so. image.jpegimage.jpeg

I'm well familiar with the Buick GS package on GM's A, B, and E-body platforms, but I've never heard of a GSS. The only '68 GS models on the Special/Skylark platform of which I'm aware were the GS350, GS400, and midyear GS California. The Buick 455 didn't even exist until 1970, and the Stage I package debuted in '69.

Regardless, when I get to the boneyard for my brake scavenging, I'll grab that center link for you. Even wrote it down on my notepad.

You're right, and I forgot to mention. It is a GS, I'm a flake.. It's got a 455 because the guy used to street race it and clearanced several motors in the process, the last installed was a 455. It does say stage 1 all over it, so it's either a 69, or the guy stuck a bunch of emblems and decals on it. I just checked.. It's a 69

thanks, if those motor mount brackets are still on the motor I'd love those as well. If the motor's gone, then never mind..

Yeah, it never had an engine in the 15+ years I've known about it. I guess it's a good thing I didn't know aboot the center link, though. I'd have grabbed and eBayed that sucker years ago. :D
