Not A Duster said:jeez - I have posted this link here at least 4 or 5 times - every time someone asks about importing a car.....First time was a year ago when I was looking at that Duster in Michigan.

You have to give them 72 hours notice of exporting a car so they can check out the paperwork. It's not horseshit - it's in place to combat cross-border car theft.
It sucks if you don't know about it.
Yep, U.S. customs needs to check if the car was stolen or used in a crime before they let leave the country. Funny thing about the three days though. On the third day when I came through with the Charger, I watched the guy do the check on the computer as I waited. [smilie=b:
That stuff on www.riv.ca won't apply to older cars, though. Anything 15 years and older doesn't have to go through the riv process.
Canada customs just wants your money - taxes and duty if applicable.
Then the fun begins with your provincial ministry of transportation....

Well for once I was right. I went with my dad and uncle to Plentywood this afternoon to pick up the car. 50 minutes after getting to the US border with the car, we were on our way. In 3 days, no one had even BREATHED on the paperwork my dad left there. They did it all while we sat and waited. Must be huge amount of other business going on at that small border crossing that they couldn't get around to filling out the paperwork. Idiots. Every time I cross into the US, I have less and less respect for the people that run the border crossing. Anyway, check the link at the beginning again for some pictures I took today. Hopefully I'll get out to take more tomorrow.

It didn't have one. It rode a trailer all the way.
