Pop's new car

jeez - I have posted this link here at least 4 or 5 times - every time someone asks about importing a car.....First time was a year ago when I was looking at that Duster in Michigan.

You have to give them 72 hours notice of exporting a car so they can check out the paperwork. It's not horseshit - it's in place to combat cross-border car theft.

It sucks if you don't know about it.
Yep, U.S. customs needs to check if the car was stolen or used in a crime before they let leave the country. Funny thing about the three days though. On the third day when I came through with the Charger, I watched the guy do the check on the computer as I waited. [smilie=b:

That stuff on www.riv.ca won't apply to older cars, though. Anything 15 years and older doesn't have to go through the riv process.

Canada customs just wants your money - taxes and duty if applicable.

Then the fun begins with your provincial ministry of transportation....

Well for once I was right. I went with my dad and uncle to Plentywood this afternoon to pick up the car. 50 minutes after getting to the US border with the car, we were on our way. In 3 days, no one had even BREATHED on the paperwork my dad left there. They did it all while we sat and waited. Must be huge amount of other business going on at that small border crossing that they couldn't get around to filling out the paperwork. Idiots. Every time I cross into the US, I have less and less respect for the people that run the border crossing. Anyway, check the link at the beginning again for some pictures I took today. Hopefully I'll get out to take more tomorrow.

:D

That's where you went wrong. Just go straight to the Canadian Border with a temporary US plate on the vehicle.

;) The Canadians don't care, once it's in Canada. Took the original tag to my insurance place, they took it away and gave me a photocopy.

FYI,It's different now too !,as of March 1st,it can't come into canada w/out a US customs stamp,or you get booted out of canada and back stateside, where you get to pay the $10k fine in cash,or forfeit the car,and the towing vehicle, for U.S. Gov't. auction material,,,,and have fun getting the paper cleared in 72 hours, you'll be waiting a week or 2,just to make sure they teach you the correct method of exporting a car,,,,the last 2 I brought into canada,in the past month, the first question was did you stop at US customs and where's their stamp, after talking to the Can,Customs guy,he said they have to enforce it now.

Well, that's the first and last time I ever import a vehicle into Canada.

Just went through the pics. That thing has definite possibilities. More than likely a C-4 but if the main case is cast iron its a FMX which is the old cast iron cruisomatic-somewhat better. If the case is one piece its a C-6 which is very desireable in that early bolt pattern. If its an original 4 barrel cleveland thats another plus due to larger valves and ports. With stainless steel valves and the right cam it will be unleaded compatable and mid 13s are easy. Go have fun with it this year and worry about paint and such during snow time. Looks like a heads up matching with your fastest mope comin right up. [smilie=e:

Don't C-6 transmissions have 17 bolts on the pan? If I recall correctly, that is the easy way to tell. [smilie=e:

Its possible, Im not crawling under one to look though, its been raining for 2 days. The C-4 and FMX both have detachable bellhousings where the C-6 is one piece. Picked up an 85 bronco full size last month and it had a 300 with C-6. You can get up to 500 buks for the bare case in that pattern. [smilie=2:
