Might be buying a Ferd...

Am I cursed or something?? I got the truck home and later today I went out to move it to where I wanted it parked but couldn't because my roommate was taking up 1/2 the space I needed....anyhoo.....I tried to put the parking brake on just for kicks and I had to almost litterally stand on it to get it to engage. When I released it the brake SLAMMED back up rather forcefully. So later when I went to move it I heard a "klunk" from my passenger rear. Not really thinking anything of it really I tried to move the truck....the damn brake is locked up!! I swear trucks HATE me!! I know next to nothing about drums. Help??

THere should be a rubber gromet the cable goes thru on the backing plate. if so torch it and melt it out should free up. what has hapened is the cable is old and it slides inside of another cable tube and it siezed up. yo got to replace the cable anyway. and i usually change the rubber pieces to. that should work. or take the tire and drum off and spray wd40 or something like that and free up .. i always try the first one and it usually works. it is a quick fix. ---ORVIL

Dumbass!! :bwuhaha:

Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never ever attempt to use a parking brake on a vehicle your not acquianted with before inspecting the cables. Unless they are used on a daily basis you can pretty much expect them to be seized. ;)

Your only real option is to cut the cable as close to the backing plate as possible then perhaps a few wacks with a hammer on the drum and backing plate to help release the brake fully.
