Duplicolor Chrysler small block red engine paint

Any paint will withstand up to 500 deg., so it doesn't need to be engine specific paint. A decent hardware store should have a multitude of color choices. Buy a few and experiment.

Little update here:

After I did the valve covers and intake with the horrible Krylon IH Red, I ordered some Rust-Oleum #209717. Tall silver can with a picture of a hard hat on the can. That's the cock for Dolly right there. Not only does it spray 1000 times better, but it's actually more of what I'm used to seeing on red LA engines. The Krylon is more of a "blue" red, whereas the Rust-Oleum has a greater yellow content (if you've mixed paint, you'll know exactly what that means). It's definitely not the orangey red you seek, but it's much closer than the Krylon garbage. Even if it weren't, it sprays out so much better I'd still use it. I used up the last of the Krylon doing the massive 10-quart pan for the W2, and even though I barely misted the first coat on there--nowhere near covering, mind you--it still managed to get a huge sag in it. You could still clearly see the original Milodon gold through it, and it fucking sagged anyhow.

I'm all done with Krylon. Never again.

I'm trying to decide which old Mopar color I want to paint the new to me 5.9 that's going into my Durango.
I think I want to go with the red. :hmmm:

Update:

VHT's "Old Ford Red" is pretty damned close to what I had on the Valiant. I do remember there being a pretty wide range of shades of that color under the same duplicolor label depending on the can. Old Ford Red matches one of my motors.. 25 posts over two pages discussing a pigment choice for my engines.. Christ, I think I need to wear a tweed coat with elbow patches, join the Jaguar club, and start discussing Whitworth thread pitches.
