an aluminum case with a "PP" stamping and an iron tail, it's an overdrive. Period. No need to open it up.

I guess if P.P. says "PP" is an OD, I gotta believe it's correct ( I've never known him to err as of yet)

It's not the "PP" stamping itself... it's just that the PP stamping means it was a factory-installed transmission (not an aftermarket Direct Connection aluminum case). The only factory 4-speeds with aluminum cases were overdrive units.

If you measure the front bearing retainer, I'm sure you'll find that it's 5.125" outer diameter, another dead giveaway to an OD trans.
