About 6 pm last night.....

Spawn

I'm just sittin here wasting time.. and
I went outside and got in my truck.... just like every time i've done when i come to work.... well this time the car started up.... but no sooner then it started up it started sputtering and shut off.... i figure i must be outta gas.... so i take my gas can down to the corner gas station and get habib to gimme 4 bucks worth a regular.... i get back to my house.... pour the gas into the tank.... tried to start it.... and NOTHING.... it felt like it wanted to start.... seems to have good compression and everything.... but nothing.... well i call the douche bag out who shares my last name and he takes off the gas cap and puts his ear down to the filler tube and listens as i turn the key on and crank it over.... he heard nothing.... so.... looks like i gotta come outta pocket with 250.00 4 freakin days before Christmas.... I mean WTF man....then it takes a couple days to get the damn thing ordered in.... i was thinkin bout goin to a junkyard and snatchin one out of a junkyard truck.... but i dunno how well that would work considering you have to pull the tank before you take a car to junk....

Don't bother with a used pump, you already have one of those. ;)

One nice thing about your truck is the plastic fuel tank and pump assembly, no rust issues to complicate the job. Also the pump and sending unit are a complete assembly so if your gas gauge was not working chances are you fix two problems at once.

bad thing is..... its year specific.... 96 was the only year they used that fuel pump assembly..... im sure even if i tried to find a used one it would be almost impossible....

:naughty: Watch it boy, or you'll be out there by yerself with a 2x4 holding up the bed, workin with a pair of knockoff vise grips:bwuhaha: ...cuz I ain't gotta let you use MY tools, and I'll be doing this :nanna: in the nice, dry basement

i cant wait til this freakin truck is straightened out.... i think im gonna get that 5.9 that our buddy has.... screw it i'll just redo the mounts.... gonna try and find an A518 though.... unless we do the thing we were talkin about with the O/D switch..... which at the present time i can even remember.... i know it was a good idea though.... and my buddy has those 5.9L j heads.... i think it'll be a screamer.... then i have a real reason to get the exhaust done.... i'll buy those manifolds off you too....

you would be suprised what you can find thats not very used...when my minivan one finaly died i went out and pulled 6 minivan tanks and found not 1 but 2 pumps that were less then 6 months old..and 1 with a lifetime warrenty in the glove box

thats cool.... but mine is YEAR SPECIFIC.... they only used em in 96.... im not hunting through every junkyard in south jersey lookin for a pump.... i'll just grin and bare the 250 for the new one....

I'm gonna use that line next time someone asks about installing used parts!

Thanks, Man!

Yah, don't ya just hate that? Then they come back a week later screaming about how the part failed, you tell 'em to pound sand, a shouting match ensues...Aw forget it.:D Unless it's a "hard" part such as a spindle, fender, bumper or such other typically non-wear item I refuse to install used parts...:dgt:

i wouldnt even think of puttin a used pump if it werent christmas time.... i havent bought ANYONE anything.... but one good thing is i called the BOYS and they have one in stock for 50 bucks less then napa wanted....

I just changed the sender unit in my 87. totally rotton lines.... :( Pain in the ass, and expensive. PLUS...they don't sell the plastic nut for holding it in, so I had to epoxy the bastard on. Grrr. Good luck!

it wouldnt be so bad if the damn thing wasnt year specific... thats what pisses me off the most....

I seem to remember you poking fun at folks who would want an older mopar like, say, a charger. Not quite so funny now is it, when you can't find a pump for less than $200 and you have to drop the tank for the priviledge of spending that money to fix it.

well when the budget come out as half a shoe string some times USED is the only way to fly...the trick to useing "used" parts is trying to find a wreck with recipts in the glove box or date coded parts so you know how new they are..its alot less of a crap shoot when you find the recipts

I dont seem to remember me poking fun at anyone wanting say a charger or something of the like... but, ok... whatever dude

BLAH!!!!! dont get me wrong... I LOVE my OLD mopars... but, my brother is talkin shit about something that he hasnt even seen... he knows i love the dakota's... been looking for one for AWHILE!!! Im also gonna be gettin my OLD mopar soon.... i just want the dakota for a driver.... As for the charger... Love that style... Just prefer metal to rust myself...

this is the one youre referring to?... did you ever see the pics he posted of it? and BTW thats my brother....

Yeppp, that's the one, or at least the basic conversation. I just thought it was ironic that you are now lamenting the $200 fuel pump shuffle/tankdrop party for the dakota, while the $20 pump for a charger bolts on to the engine.

No inslut intended-maybe I came across that way, didn't mean to.

i'd gladly pay 200 for the fuel pump.... if the alternative was buyin that charger though.... i know if you have a vin plate you can build a car around it... but i would like to drive again sometime this decade....
