XL's going to the pump..!!

It's been a LONG hard road but after much buck farting and testing XL's little 452 is going on the pump.
I've had his parts (cam..iron heads..carb..ect) on different engines to make sure everything works with pump gas but in the end (even after grinding a second roller cam) my well laid plans were not so well laid.
My pump gas combo was not so pump gas friendly.:shifty: :o As long as the engine temp was around 150 everything was hunky dorree but the min it got up to real operating temps like 190 I got detonation.
The closed chamber iron heads just hold too much heat for pump gas... but luckily a customer who has coveted these heads since he saw them on the flow bench and watched them on the last dyno session offered to trade our hero's iron cyl heads and intake for a brand new set of Indy EZ cyl heads.
So tonight all the parts have come together to make a little hp.
The last time around XL's engine made 575 hp and a hair under 600 ft lbs of tq on pump gas so we'll see what it'll do with these ported EZ's.
and once I have the engine broken in and set on kill were going to throw a little n2o at it (150 shot) and figure out what the MSD 7AL3 will need (chip wise) so our intrepid Hero can just hit a switch and spray his new bullet to his hearts content...
Plus all this will be recorded on state of the art television quality gear (no grainy videos here)

So keep your eyes open for the vid. :giggedy:

Am I missing something here, or is this like me giving up my 360 duster for the (admittedly good running) 1986 chevy cavalier I've been coveting?

>>>>>>ponders 3 bone stock hippy 400s with my tu-tu in the trunk as a kicker.

kind of a weight/fitment dilemma going on though.

where was she peaking?

Uh, 69.5... it has nothing to do with weight. It's all about thermal conductivity.

plus it's not quite as heavy:doh:

Rob rob ROB!!!!!! stop staring at yourself in the reflection of the X and get us some video already :poke:

How is a Walrus similar to a Tupperware container?

They both like a tight seal.

Boot...

I had it on the pump last Sat night and spent 6 hours chasing little glitches.
It was midnight before it was broken in and almost ready for a pull.I have one cyl that was reading cool compared to the rest so I only pulled it once...it made 615/570 on real pump 91.I figure it's got another 25 hp in it.
I just haven't had the energy to take off that head to make sure I haven't got a Cometic head gasket leaking some water into that cyl that reads cooler than the rest.
You guys wouldn't believe the ferocious amount of time I have invested in this little project...and this little hic-up really took the wind out of my sails I thought I was all finished.
I just have to build up some steam and get at it...
