When dealers can fix 9-speeds

Dealers can fix some parts of the nine-speed transmissions, but should not try to rebuild them, according to a recentFCA US noticeto dealers.
The document indicates that problems with the Jeep Cherokee’s nine-speed were reduced in 2015, as there is a special process for dealing with model-year 2014 and early 2015 V6 Cherokees (built through March 3, 2015). Dealers are supposed torequest a transmission replacement electronically, supplying images of the transaxle serial number, odometer, and diagnostic worksheet. There is a replacement worksheet as well,which is required, and notes the “repair issue.”
There are differences in what can be repaired on the ZF-build 9HP48 and Chrysler-built 948TE versions. (...) →
