What I did on vacation...

Pics? We got pics...

You gotta forgive the quality... the camera was dying.

I would have never, ever bet this thing would run:

The inner fender's a loss, but the washer bottle is nearly perfect. It's still got fluid in it, and a solid punch was unable to crack it!

To give you an idea how rusty we're talking here, one solid kick to the ball and the hitch fell off. It was bolted through the frame. :D This was before we got it started (note the undisturbed rust on the floor).

The detritus you see on the floor is solely from closing the doors. Seriously. The trunk extension fell out upon closing the driver's door. I'm not even remotely kidding.

Just another shot of the overall disaster that is this car...

It's alive!

Here's the kicker: we sanded the points, ran a jumper wire to coil +, and dumped some gas down the carb... believe it or not, the damned thing runs!! Not only that, it actually runs quite well... no smoke, no strange noises. The exhaust smells like death, though. I've never smelled anything so harsh previously emanating from a tailpipe. I'm pretty sure it's something dead in the muffler. Stretch was the fuel pump; he stood over the carb with a squirt-bottle of gas to keep her going... I don't think he ever got a full whiff of the horrifying exhaust smell. Lucky him.

Just messing around with the beast in the garage last night was worth the price of investment. The five of us giggled like idiots about the condition of the car, the idea of trying to get it to run, and the fact that it ran at all, much less well. $50 for a few hours' quality entertainment ain't a bad deal at all these days.

I hear you on that one....Buying that car seems like it was worth the price of admission...:D

My brother was/is into old ford maverick's and mercury comets and we used to pick them up for almost nothing, when we were's in our late teens.

One day we picked up one for free, been sitting outside for 11 years. Anyway dragged it home...that in it's self is another story...[smilie=::

Anyway it was sporting the 200 straight six, so for kicks we thought we'd see if it would run, we put a battery in it...tinkered a little and the thing fired up on the varnish that was still in the tank...:eek2: But man the smell comming out of that tailpipe could have dropped an elephant...not sure how we didn't die...:D

Ahh good times...thanks for the trip down memory lane...:2thumbs:

It's alive!

Two of my co-workers, Mark and Todd, went and fetched the Barracuda yesterday afternoon after work, and it's safely nestled in Mark's yard. Mark, Todd, Stretch, Mopar_man and I spent last night going over the old girl, and really there isn't much there to recommend it..

Mopar_man  SHANE ???

Parts cars. Gotta love 'em. :)

Doc, save every bolt, clip and screw from that car you can. Little things like door lock rod retaining clips or headlamp bucket nylon nuts are priceless to someone putting a car together.

Send 'em to me. :)

Worth, say, I dunno... an 800 Thunder Series? :D

You are very brave. I woulda thought if it even turned over the motor would break off the K-member and the car would disappear in a cloud of red dust.

I'm in the UP of MI, about 100 miles north of Green Bay, WI. He moved, and lives across town from me at the moment... although he's moving to a new place at the moment, about 7 miles away in a smaller-yet town.

Being from out west, I've never seen rust like that before. Take pictures tomorrow so we can see how fast it's spreading. "Look kids! It's rusting as we speak!":shifty:

Mark doesn't want it in his garage anymore. It stunk bad enough with the car in there; according to him it still smelled awful on Sunday... we pushed it out on Friday night. :D

It seems a local semi-shady resto-type has taken an unnatural interest in our little A-fish, and is already offering stupid money to get it... even knowing it's complete trash. He's asking about trim, the dash, the glass, and was apparently sprouting wood at the fact that it's got the Performance Indicator in the dash.

We're not going to sell it--particularly not to him--but we are making sure we profit from both the car and the barrel over which we're gonna hold this jackass if he wants any parts. :D

doc send him my way on anything he wants that ya dont have...ill GLADLY bend him over for parts....since ive got MORE than my fair share and alot of shells going under the knife
