What do you fellers up north use for gloves?

Two brain cells left.. rubbing together for warmth
Hey all.. been a while.

I recently went outside to get one of my cars running (finish reassembling it) and while the weather was above freezing, my hands were just about done in about fifteen minutes. I don’t have a walled in garage, and my tools are in a room in the back of my carport that isn’t climate controlled. As soon as you trade enough body heat to warm up one wrench, the next one makes you want to quit for the day. What gloves are you guys using that allow you to start a 1/4 or 6 mm bolt, and still manage to keep your fingertips from falling off? I’d only be using them down to about 20 degrees F.

Hope everyone’s doing well!

Matt

ok so i have issues using ANY kind of glove and for good reason, my fine sense of touch in my fingers has never been great, i prefer to ride bare handed and unless its STUPID cold i wont wear anything, over the years tho i found that there were enough times where i needed something, in the late 80s i lived next to a motorcycle shop, found some gloves on clearance that i HAD to try "fox" made some neoprene back thin leather palm/fingers called them arctic paws i used them for wrenching for riding the ability to "feel" thru them was the ONLY reason, and the waterproof dive suit material back keeps the hands from totally ending your day it took YEARS to kill them and i kept stitching them back up,

fastforward after a long hiatus from riding and working in the cold i needed something again 8 years ago and had to really dig to find anything, till i stumbled deep into fox's website and found they still make the same EXACT gloves with some re-enforcement in a few key spots with a removable ultra thin liner under a new name "antifreeze", same badass glove with only minor changes, i do believe its the closest thing youll find to something "workable" without loss of fine control

I just use insulated work gloves. But for the most part I don't use them. If I need to pull wrenches in the cold I'll use the gloves when the wrench is in my hand but they are off if I'm starting bolts or doing small stuff.

I'm kind of in the same boat as the Stretchable One, however my choice of glove is Mechanix "Wind Resistant Winter" gloves. They're about the best thing I've found in terms of compromise between dexterity and warmth.

A couple of things to keep in mind: These ain't winter gloves for skiing, sledding, etc. They're work gloves. They'll keep your hands warm if you're moving them a lot--as designed. They're not even good for walking, with your hands just hanging at your sides.
The other thing? They're absolutely not even fire-resistant. They will singe while feeding a bonfire if your hands get too close.
