Up close and personal...

Mustang hands down. The 300 still looks like an oversized mechanical trout to me. Perhaps it gleens flies from the air with its grill? [smilie=e:
Wait 'til you see it's little brother - the Carp - er - Charger. The new Durango is pretty nice too.[smilie=e: And then wait'll you get a load of the 2006 Ram.
Why would you compare the SRT-8 with a generic GT? It out cubes it badly, and regardless of what you think, it is one of the ugliest things Ma ever produced.

"Ma" had nothing to do with it. These things are as much Mopar as a Lada is.

Guess you will have to wait a while, and see what actually driving all these cars is like. ;) Lottsa stuff sounds good on paper, but in day to day may have totally different outcome.

I drove the Mustang GT and the Magaganum last fall. The wagnum may be quicker, but you would never know it. You are so isolated from the experience that you might as well be riding in a hearse....your own. Contrast that with the mustang which was fast, loud, rude fun and had a manual transmission.

The 1/4 mile time is great, but seems extremely close in arguement to a certain SRT-4/old muscle car arguement. The Srt-4 may be faster, but I would rather have my foot into some fun, then something that merely goes fast.

You also want to be seen in the thing - have some pride of ownership. The friggin' neon is bad enough - I would hate to have to deal with the derision from my co-workers if I actually spent $45K on something that ugly....hell I'd have to park down the street. :D

I guess Ron summed it up pretty well. :)

Yup - and he's about as true blue Mopar as anyone I know..

Isn't ford coming out with a cobra edition in 06 or 07? I saw a few of the new stanges on the road and I like them a lot compared to the last model stange. It will still be a me 2 car (what kinda car you drive a mustangs, yeah me 2), but if the cobra would have some respectable power it be a sweet ride. As of now it looks a lot better then the GTO and the Charger. Its a lot easier to recognize its roots then the other competitors. But Im still mad the Charger has the same grill as a utility van and I like older stanges [smilie=e: .

Yeah, the SVT Cobra version will be much closer to an SRT-8 for comparisons sake, I mean that is supposedly dodges hotshot, so we should try and keep it apples to apples, oranges to oranges. :)
they still make a GTO? :D I have never seen ONE on the road.

I don't think they're legal to sell in Canada. Not that it really matters :D

Dunno - the GTO ain't really that bad - styling a little boring, yes - but not offensive. New ones look a little better with the tacked on cosmetics I guess. When compared to the repulsive euro - styling of Der Daimler's offerings.....

They have the elements of a hotrod tho...small, light, fun to drive.

2-doors, manual transmission :D

I like the concept of the GTO but I don't like the name. It looks nothing like a GTO, therefore it shouldn't be called one. Same as the Charger.

Yup - that too.

See - I don't care what they call it GTO, GTI, GTE - it's their name - they can use it however they see fit..

I don't even care that that they are calling the soccer-mom mobile a charger. It's an offensively ugly automobile no matter what nameplate you hang on it. As is the 300 and the new trucks, and what they are showing as the replacement for the neon.

A couple years ago, I was fortunate to attend a lighting design seminar given by a gentleman who is very well respected in the field. The most telling thing I remember him saying is that creative people these days, be they architects, lighting designers, graphic designers, musicians, artists, stylists - they are all striving so hard to be "cutting edge" and "alternative" that they forget things like "attractive and appealing."

The result is a lot of garbage. From an appearance standpoint, Krysler's new vehicles fit squarely into that catagory.

You probably have seen one, it's just that the bland styling is forgettable at best.
I saw one at the track recently and its ok to look at I guess, from what Ive been told its a design from an australian GM outfit called Holden mabeye? [smilie=e:

Based on their designs, they will fit squarely into anything... Why not just put some wheels on a refrigerator box. same appeal and aerodynamics...

Ponticrap is following the same path as Mopar. they're products look way too familiar in some senses. I.E. the dumbass grills. both terrible.
oh forgot to state: IMO.;)

Its kinda hard to understand why young rodders today try to do stuff with civics and such but thats what they have to scrounge up cheap these days. We were lucky to have real ones to modify. We are old school. I agree that both offerings from furrd and das krysler suk bigtime and are way overpriced. Time marches on. I guess what Im trying to say is lets make the best with whats on hand to do so and learn something in the proccess. I downloaded a program for GM stuff recently to interface with the ECM through the test port with a simple laptop and remap timing and EFI settings. If those computer geeks are making progress with this newer stuff us old farts better get with the program too and coupled with our hands on experience and different ways of doing what we already know works this new stuff will FLY. Sorry rant over. [smilie=e:

I like the way a post about the new Mustang being ugly turned into a D-C bash-a-thon. :D

I think the new Mustang is ugly too.

If I was going to spend too much money on a car, a 300-C or Charger would be the way I'd go. But I'm not, so fuggit about it.

As soon as the kid takes over Gina's Honda, I'm gonna get me an old Volare or Aspen and run the wheels off it. The last one I had was known as "The Showcar". Not even the AM radio worked right on it. :D

IMO, there's no reason to spend more than $500 or so on a car - just get one you can repair yourself.

And another idiot wades into the frey. I saw my first GT yesterday and have to agree with Doc on his feelings of camera work lead in. The car is not as crisp or jumping out at you as the marketing lead in. They may have actually done themselves a disservice in this area. Accentuate every old styling cue for the camera, and those get subdued when viewed in its entirity.
But for the dollars of almost any new cars, I would much sooner buy a crapo econo-box mileage getter and put coins onto a real car. Yes - I know, I know - all of the ocmebacks. For my Monday to Friday needs the crapobox fills the bill and I really don't like any new car so I don't feel remiss not driving some new - whatever.
I had to give back our loaner Turdcel on Friday and so far the Bone-a-Pill has eaten $60 worth the fuel. The Turdcel wouldn't have eaten $10 to $15. And those saved coins could be getting no mileage in a real car.
Just my look at it. I'll never have a 300C and never have a 2005 Mudstain GT. Not for spite or contempt, just that new cars don't get my blood going.
