Have to disagree with you there...the people upset and protesting are a small minority of the population and I don't appreciate the assumption that the majority of Canadians are supportive of them and their actions. And I'd say that the majority of Canadians are happy with the vaccine response.
the media has screwed this one up and aimed it as "truckers" when in reality its a minority of dickheads who happen to own trucks and be stopping OTHER uninvolved truckers
digging down into the truth of it is a clusterfuckery...im with cow here, hell ive got family on that side of the border
Exactly. This seems like it was never about truckers, but more about a bunch of chucklefucks who also happened to be truckers. It may have started as a trucker thing, but it stopped being about that almost immediately, in my opinion.
Most of the protestors right now are not even showing up in commercial trucks.
I don’t know what the media in US is doing, but I wouldn’t blame the media here.
All of this started with the organisers creating trucker convoy social media groups to rally support, and creating fund raising campaigns using language that indicated it was all about truckers.
90% of the truckers in Canada are still on the job.
The long lines of trucks that you see on the news are the truckers trying to do their jobs and are being prevented or delayed by the chucklefucks.
There is an interesting article that points to a marketing firm in Bangladesh that is behind some of the online campaigns.
And whether you hate Trudeau or not, he’s done the appropriate things so far. No PM, regardless of their party, would allow themselves to be beholden to any kind of mob. That would be fucking idiocy on their part. They don’t have any kind of new information that the government doesn’t already understand. There’s no reason to converse about the issue.
The reality is that the chucklefucks co-opted an idea.
Admittedly, there was a lot of “not my job” going on between the different levels of government - and also the fact that government does not direct law enforcement action - because of the question of “Is this a City of Ottawa problem, a Province of Ontario problem, or a federal problem?
With things expanding beyond the City of Ottawa, it’s a much clearer jurisdiction and we are seeing the appropriate level of engagement. Unfortunately, it’s even necessary.
The trucks have left the Ambassador bridge, but there are still protestors that say they refuse to leave. It’s not about trucks.
A convoy is headed to Fort Erie and the provincial police are taking steps to stop them from reaching the border. There are some commercial trucks, but most are personal vehicles.
Also, there is a lot of the same activity on the US side of the border.
Anyway, as to the original issue, if Canada lifted the Canadian mandate for vaccination for truckers crossing the border, those truckers would just get stopped at the US border. BECAUSE THE US HAS THE SAME RULE IN PLACE AND WE CAN‘T CHANGE THAT.
Meanwhile, these convoys crossed Canada and arrived in Ottawa without issue.
