Tonight's shifty behavior

The temperature was nice enough to do more digging in the garage tonight, yet not quite nice enough to spend too much actual time out there. As such, I decided to spend some time working through the mess of linkage rods I've thus far managed to unearth. Going by suspicions and faded memory along with some help from a few websites, I've got most of it nailed down and resonable ideas for the remainders.

Left to right, what we've got here is:

1: 1964-70 B-body aftermarket Hurst Competition Plus (bushed linkage) reverse
2: 1964-70 B-body aftermarket Hurst Competition Plus (bushed) 1-2
3: 1976-'80 F-body factory Hurst 3-4 #1
4: 1976-'80 F-body factory Hurst 3-4 #2 (identical; sitting differently due to installed trans lever)
5: 1968-74 A-/'76-'80 F-body factory Hurst 1-2
6: 1970-74 E-body factory Hurst 1-2
7: 1970-74 E-body factory Hurst 3-4
8: 1976-'87 D-body (truck) factory Hurst 3-4
9: Unknown, possibly A-/F-body '66-'68 Inland or later ITM (Inland) Hurst copy (A833OD) 1-2
10: Unknown, possibly A-/F-body '66-'68 Inland/ITM reverse #1
11: Unknown, possibly A-/F-body '66-'68 Inland/ITM reverse #2 (identical, w/1968-'70 B-body reverse lever[?!])

I didn't bother to label the 100% known sets I have for Agnes and Stretch, and I'm pretty sure I've got the missing piece for the '64-'70 B-body Comp Plus setup still hanging off a shifter somewhere. I'm also sure I can make #10 or #11 work with a Hurst shifter, with a little creativity... but I'm not sure how I got two of those (which I'm almost positive are ITM overdrive parts) when the other A/F-body stuff I have is known Hurst. Then again, I'm also almost positive #9 is ITM overdrive as well so it's hard to say what came from where.

Anyhow, it's nice to know what I've got (or at least what I've found so far) and it burned up the evening quickly and enjoyably. I know there's more linkage buried here and there--there's a set of heavy-duty sleeved rods around somwhere--I just have yet to discover it.

A little further digging has revealed that #s 9 and 11 are, in fact, OD rods for the ITM "rubberized Hurst" shifter. #10 is apparently a Hurst, since the non-swivel end is a smaller than the otherwise-identical rubber-bushed ITM rod.

A little more on the shifter front...

Whilst preparing to clean parts over the weekend, two things became apparent: that Agnes' Super Shifter 1-2 rod is a bit short but'll work, and that 3-4 rod and lever, well, aren't from a Super Shifter at all. It's an OE (assembly-line) Hurst rod and lever with a Super Shifter/Comp Plus bushed swivel installed to fit the shifter. I found and ordered an NOS Super Shifter rod and operating lever today, which is a stronger piece--much thicker than the factory stuff. It actually worked out rather well, because I had OE 1-2 and reverse rods with no matching 3-4 rod. Now I have two full sets, one OE and one go-fast (please ignore the fact that I only have one A-body).

What didn't work out so well was finding a bunch of other Super Shifter parts in the process, most of which I ordered because that's what hoarders do (and the prices weren't insane). The 1-2 rod is long discontinued, but there's a Muncie rod rod whose only difference is length: it's a whopping 1/4" longer. I snagged it, along with another reverse rod I located, both of which are NOS. The extra 1-2 and reverse levers are good used. That leaves me short one 3-4 rod and operating lever from having two full sets of the racy bits. However, I'm thinking I may be able to use a Super Shifter/Comp Plus swivel with the ITM-shifter (overdrive) 3-4 rod to build a fully-bushed Super-style setup for the Imperial which, being an F-body variant, uses the short-tail A/F-body transmission. That being said...

I have a bid in on another (used) 3-4 rod, just in case. 😄

I also have a bid on a correct used 1-2 rod--the slightly-short rod currently on Agnes' setup will bug me. 🤪

This is the kind of thing I fear will happen to me when I get digging into my parts stash for the Charger.

The only upside is that by the time that happens I'll probably be senile and the extra parts will be a plus.

Yeah, I was digging around in the garage the other day and found the dash inlay and "Challenger" emblem, ready to go into the new dash pad. Those parts should not be confused with the dash inlay and "Challenger" emblem I ordered within the last two months for the new dash pad... yep, more doubles.

At least I haven't screwed up and double-ordered staggeringly expensive stuff like, I dunno, two dash pads or extra Rallye-dash AC panels (and since I reportedly got the last set of NOS rocker mouldings in the US, there's no doubling down on those). Hard to forget those kinds of expenditures.

Very cool....I should take pics of the set-up I grabbed from a 80's dodge van....still on the A833OD. ;)

I have one of those. Its easily identifiable in my stack of A833's by the goofy ass tall crossmember mount still bolted to it!😄
