To see Photobucket pics in threads....

after seeing the aftermath of all the pics everywhere even buisnesses that were using bucket for free..i see no suprise that they want 400$ a year to release your pic's...but damn had they even done 100$ a year they may have actualy had some bites

that said...from my digging the only way you will ssee the pics is thru the fact they are still stored in your cache and while you the poster may see them the rest of the world will not short of going to your album

Your right 69...if they had actually been reasonable, and had some basic knowledge in economics they would have realized that 100,000 people paying $50-$100 to get their pics back (I would have done this. ;) ) compared to a 1000 people willing to pay $400. they would have been way ahead money wise.

A member on one of the 1st gen cummins boards I'm on posted up that if you put "~original" in the photobucket link...(just behind the last jpg and the [/img]. This has to be done by the original poster in the edit on the post, then the pics will work and should be visible by everyone. I have tried this and everyone said they could see the pics.

Just time consuming to have to go through all the old threads, and hope they have not been closed, and then add the ~original to every pic link. Once done someone said you can archive them on a webarchive site....still looking into how to do that.

hmmm well thats worth playing with

after the sillyness of the bucket..a friend of mine pony'ed up server space, a website and a photo drop site, however linking pics out of it is NOT simple on all sites..but, its fully under our control and has kept me posting pics on a vic site for his car im doing

"if" my sig pic (the smily gif) stays up..that is indeed your "original" in test..and does seem to be working

I’ll look into that.
It would be simple enough to run a script to change all of the links in the posts.

What’s the worse that could happen? Pictures don’t show up. :D

It might be a while though.
I started a new job last week. So, I’m a tad busy and mentally drained.

oh man if you can fix all the busted pics with a script that would be sooo wicked cool

i actual found a STASH of vintage smilys, and remembered where they came from....the "original" mopararts...or wherever most of us were shuned from after it went down and was rebuilt

dcf i assume youlll let us know if you figure it out?

...and Saturday went hell, fast.

I’ve got a plan in my head though. Just need to find some time to test.

It's not as I thought it would be.
I'll have to do some more thinking on this one.

I have to be able to inspect every post for IMG tags, parse out the url inside the tags, make sure it's a photobucket url, and then add the ~original bit on the end.
Not impossible, but it's kinda brute force and if they decide to change things, we'll have broken links again.

I want to rethink this into something that will generate the amended url on the fly. That way if they break it, and there's is another workaround, I just have to change that code.

But for what it's worth, I tested a few pics by manually editing a post (on another forum) and that ~original trick worked.

is this trick still working or did they catch on?..or does it only work here?...another forum i use for the vic stuff the trick doesnt work on...so it would seem its specific to certain forum code
