Time warp! We're back.

So, if any of you didn't see the message I had posted, the hosting company was kind enough to upgrade our server to a box with 8 CPUs, unlimited storage and I don't know how much RAM.

Cool.

But they did it in what was the beginning of the day here in the East and took longer than expected... and had some hardware issues in the process.

Worse, they managed to corrupt the database in the process.

I asked if this was the scheduled upgrade that I had posted about a while back and can't get a straight answer. It seems that it didn't happen when they told me it happened, but did happen this week.

I wish I had known it was a full hardware upgrade. I would have pulled a new backup.

As it is, I didn't. The latest database backup I have is from August 29th. That's what you're looking at now. Pretty. Isn't it?

At first glance things look to be working okay except for the styles - at least I'm seeing no style graphics. How about you?

I'll work on that.

Besides the obvious loss of posts for the last few weeks, let me know if you come across any other problems.

Some pictures that you uploaded in the last few weeks will have likely disappeared as well. Actually, the file may still be there but the link to them would have been stored in the database and that link would now be gone. There's no easy way to restore those links. Just re-upload them if you want.

I think the worst part of it all is that I realized that the database was corrupted and asked support if they could re-try the move for that database because it was corrupted and if they couldn't , tell me, and I'll open things back up with the Aug 29 db.
Pretty simple, no? Do you have the db from before the move? If yes, restore it again. If no, tell me.

3 days and several "Have you tried this" and "I can't access your site" and "where can I see this error" e-mails later - BTW, it seems the smart people work the overnight. Seems.
That's about the only time I got any response with one exception.

I had two tickets open. In the end I get an e-mail from one guy saying, "Yep you're right. The db is hosed. Carry on with your old one." and another e-mail from another guy saying, "We restored from a backup all is well."

Yeah, well they restored from the Aug 29 backup.... which is what I was ready to do if the current one couldn't be fixed. Now, however, I don't have the current, corrupted db to work with.

Monkies.

Got the styles back.

Quick reply box is small - that's weird.

The last batch of arcade games that were uploaded are gone. I can fix that but the scores are gone for good.

All your hard work and worry is appreciated.

Four days without Moparnuts to cleanse the trash from my brain.

Limited only to ponder the ramifications of said loss of an outlet for the meaningless drivel that accumulates in ones warped mind.

We are now members of a corrupt database.
Ooooh, dat don't feel bad, but........

The loss to posterity of several weeks of moparnuts knowledge, philosophical ramblings, insane rants, and general bullshit? Surely civilization has been set back at least 37 seconds. What catostrophic effect can this have on the universe?

Wanders off pondering and scratching his ass. :hmmm:

You fully and completely grasp the extent of the loss.
Congratulations. You have a life.

:D

The worst of it is: you poor buggers have to live through all my carb questions again. :D

My posts were Federally insured up to 100,000 words, and put in a secure archive registry so I can repost them at will.

Now I just need the gubiment to open the vault for me. :hmmm:

Here's a weird one.... when I start typing in the quick reply box and decide to "go advanced" it pops up with and error aboot "security tokens.

clicking reply gets to the advanced box just fine :giggedy::mad::naughty::(:shifty::huh::xl:

which looks a bit funky :p

Looks like some avatars were hooped too.

Mine was changed after the last backup. So, I'm hoping that's why mine went away.
I notice that DG's is gone and can't remember if you've changed yours recently.

Styles were a little messed up under the covers.
It'll take some time to get those sorted out - and I have to head out for a meeting.

I'll get to it later.

Got the styles fixed.
Got the Latest threads fixed.
Got the latest album pics back in..
Got the second row of menus back in..

Thanks four fickzing it. The implosion of the 'pack was painful but the loss of my 'nuts, would be, well, sterilizing. I haven't found a site yet that's as comfortable and fun as this one. :)
