Time for a change.

I like them. I've just had them on it for so long I just wanted a change. I also LOVE the look of body color wheels and dog dish hub caps.

Dog dish hubcaps and steelies are the answer to all of the questions..

You know why they're referred to as "dog dish"?

Back before the environmentalists brought about the demise of many family run boneyards, they all had a guard dog. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "junk-yard dog". They were usually a mix breed of a German Sheppard and satan himself. Well, because the small hubcaps had zero resale value, they tended to make perfect food & water dishes for these un-loved canines.

I like that look.

I also liked the Magnum wheels but a change-up is always good...

And why do the gm guys call them "poverty caps" ? :hmmm:
Full wheelcovers were an extra-cost option on any brand of car. When you spent all your money on the drivetrain, you didn't have leftover greenbacks for something that didn't improve performance anyhow.

Down South, it's pretty common to hear them referred to as "bottle caps" as well. Perhaps because they have really-large bottles somewhere, or they crimp on their hubcaps? I dunno. Of course, they also seem to interchange the word "chuck" with "chunk" for some reason, both in terms of items such as steering boxes or 8.75" center sections (both of which are "chucks" in Chrysler-ese) as well as in terms of throwing something: "Just chunk that in the corner."

I much prefer this look on Stretch's car, even though it's technically no more "correct" than the Magnum wheels were. Body-colored steelies went away early in the '72 model run, but these still manage to look "right" where the all-chrome road wheels never did in my eyes.

Full wheelcovers has got to be the worst look on any car. :(

If a car has to have wheel covers, actually prefer the look of most full wheel covers (we called 'em hubcaps) over the dawg dish caps.

Only cars I remember growing up that actually came delivered with the dog dishes were cop cars and other government or company fleet sedans & wagons. The cop covers had holes punched in them, which meant you couldn't even use them for your pooche's water bowl... :toot: Dad's '76 Coronet wagon had dog dishes, zero options and was a left over "ordered for Xerox" fleet car that he bought cheap. Other than that, I can't think of seeing too many cars in the early/mid '70s with 'em...

Everything except for my truck has 'em.. The truck's on some seventies turbines I've never seen before or since. I've probably got another 4 full sets of the seventies dog dish versions in the basement, one set unmarked, one set "Plymouth Division", one set with the Fratzog, and one set of police units. Also got five of the police wheels.. Those will probably go under the Fury next time it needs tires.

The ones on the green barge are 68 vintage and the ones on the baby blue are 67's.

Yup, stole them from Cow's Wagon. The Fury's wearing Roadrunner hubcaps, if I'm not mistaken.. I picked them up for $20, because a couple of them were used to sight a BB gun. I'm fairly certain the ones on the A bodies are period correct, but anytime I see them for sale somebody's got them advertised as 66-68. The ones on the Valiant came with the car.

;)

Stretch.....those looks sooo good!

Thanks Cow. I love them. The wheels along with a little something else I changed that was hinted to in the "What are you working on" thread have given me a renewed lust for the ol' girl!

Hmmm. Any other suspension upgrade besides bushings wouldn't have needed that.. Nor brake upgrade. Or subframe connectors.. I'll guess poly bushings, LCAs, or a totally rotted unibody, but your car's too clean for the latter. Unless Wilwood, or Scarebird or something.. I don't know if they'd make you pull the LCAs or not. You win.. What is it?
