The Valiant Is Down Again.....

Hiding In The Bushes While
This time the fix is a little easier then finding a used windshield.

Was driving up north into the freakin middle of nowhere to look at some cars on this highway that had been converted into a super sized grid road and we were coming to a bridge and there was a huge hole in the road, no time to swerve so I smoked it and it flipped the passenger side rear spring hanger forward so now the car bumper was about 3" from the ground, No point in turning back since we were about 5 miles from his place and 90 miles from home, so we find the guy's place and have a look around and he says he was about 50 more cars at another yard about a mile away so me, him, my brother and a buddy of mine all pile into the Valiant, you can probably guess how low it is now and off roading in it was probably not the smartest idea ever, so we drive to this other yard and while we were driving around we smoke this mole hill that pulls the muffler off of the exhaust pipe, now remeber this exhaust did not have a tail pipe, just a muffler attached to a hanger and about 6' of pipe so the muffler was right ahead of the rear end and if we had a knife I would have cut the hanger, so we continue driving with the nasty drag of the muffler which almost got us stuck, but we manage to get to the yard and limp the old girl the 3/4 of a mile to the highway and we turn onto it, we make it about 60' down the highway and the old guy says "Stop the car, I smell gas!" so I stop and we all get out and have a look underneath the car and there is the muffler, it had swung around the rear end and was dragging on the ground wedged underneath the gas tank which is has PUT A HOLE IN! Gas was pissing out all over the steel muffler that was being dragged along the pavement! So here we are, 10 miles from the nearest gas station and 90 miles from home with a hole in our gas tank. We managed to get it back to his yard by rushing down the ditch backwards and get a drain pan under the tank ASAP, me and him pull the tank and drain it into a 5 gallon pail and rig the pail up the the fuel line and put the pail in the trunk and wedged stuff around it to keep it still and we were able to drive that Valiant straight home, 95 miles on 3/4 of that 5 gallon pail. It was a loud, droning drive home but we made it.

The only thing I found out there worth buying was a pair of power wagons's, one that was a '74 /6 4spd regular cab and box truck with the nicest 100% rust free body I had ever seen in my life and a a '79 club cab truck with a 400/727 and make a rust free big block '74 PW outta the two and he would only sell them as a pair for $800.:giggedy:

That and an old Jeep Wagoneer with a I6 in it that ran and drove with a decent body for $250!

That was my adventure this weekend. :D

So when it stops raining here I gotta pull the leafs outta the Dune Buggy Dart and patch the tank with some epoxy.

I have to wounder what a /6 power wagon would drive like?:hmmm:

Well there is a /6 in our Fargo 400 grain truck with steel box and hoist and we've hauled 20 big round bales with it, a slant with a stick behind it can do marvelous things......................just not very fast. :D

No fires- it was a good day. Bend the pipe down and weld the shit out of the next muff- top and bottom and beat er some more.

I still have the old muffler, it's not very old and a little beat up but I'm gonna weld it back in there.
