I'm not sure if anybody is following the RIAA's actions lately but they're probably the lowest of the low as far as companies go. As if suing a PC-illiterate Long Island mother of five for sharing music wasn't enough, they're now going after a paralyzed stroke victim.

The entire world is an arsehole looking to suck money out of anyone or anybody. Lame, mute, deaf, disabled - it doesn't matter - all dollars wil be sucked out.
 
I am seriously beginning to think I am the only person left on this planet that actually goes out and actually buys the cd's!!!:wtf:Yeah I have a few burned cd's and cd's of songs people have sent me online but I don't do the d/l music thing...mainly I don't know how and I like to look at the cd cover art/pics.. :xl:

I'll buy a CD if it's an album full of songs that I enjoy. I won't buy a whole album for the 1 or 2 good songs on it (which seems to be all that today's "talent" can muster). Here is a site to tell you whether your favourite artist is associated with the RIAA or not. A website I frequent is actually having an RIAA boycott (see here for info).
 
It amazes me the record companies have been taken to court for things like, oh, price fixing, payola, and copyright infringement themselves yet they have the balls to sue ppl who are clearly not even capable d/ling music. They can install a root kit on your computer and that's okay, but refusing to pay 18$ for a one song cd makes the consumer the bad guy? How do these ppl sleep at night?

If you don't want to pay for the product - fine.

Just don't take it without paying for it.

Posting up extreme situations will not change that.

The two I posted aren't the only 2 extreme situations. Like the comic says, there's been cases were the RIAA has tried to sue dead people. I have no problem if they go after people who've actually downloaded music illegally but how can they be taken seriously when they don't do that but instead go after people who haven't done anything and try to strongarm them into paying? I understand this is directly related to your field of work and figured you'd be one to surely reply. I'm not trying to promote downloading music. In fact, that website I linked to has ways of going about supporting your favourite artist without lining the pockets of the RIAA (buying used CD's, going to concerts, etc.). NIN (and I know other bands have done this) released a track from their upcoming album for free. The RIAA had a shit hemorrhage over this. Why? Because they weren't getting any royalties from it. I also read a story last week about the RIAA shutting down sites that review and try to promote music/artists. They don't distribute music, they only have one track from certain artists and try to promote the artist they're featuring. There isn't something wrong with all of that? :wtf:
 
This week I downloaded Guess Who, and Golden Earring, all the songs I downloaded I have paid for and supported the groups in the Golden Earring case I know I have bought the same songs at least 4 times. So the question is am I morally just in downloading a digital copy?
 
I haven't d/l anything in years because it is in fact wrong aside from illegal, my point was how can they expect everyone else to play by the rules if they clearly aren't going to? Multiple times.

It's a program, typically running in the background on your PC that is hidden from the owner/user of the computer. Think virus without causing any damage to the file system. They are typically used to phone home and report on system activity without the owner's knowledge or to scrape sensitive information and relay it to the program's creator.
 
I guess Windows Vista has a root kit running in it and it will relay to Microsoft about illegally downloaded software, music, movies etc.

Sure does I have XP pro but lost the disk and I need to clean up this hard drive I hope I can still buy XP umm ya I bought this copy....
