They may not have gotten the gold in World Class Manufacturing yet, butthe Sterling Heights body shop and Marysville Axle Plant have been certified gold-level LEED buildings.In short, they use less power and createless pollution than most buildings.
Brian Harlow, head of manufacturing for FCA North America, said the highest possible LEED status was the primary objective of both designs. The LEED system is based on standards in site planning, water and material use, energy, and indoor environmental quality. There are three levels, and gold is in the middle.
The body shop at Belvidere Assembly and the Trenton South Engine Plant plants have also been certified; Trenton was the first engine plant in the world to gain the honor in 2010. (...) →
