Situation Normal All Funked Up!

Well heck, how in the world does a simple, easy 1/2 day drive get turned into a mess? I dont know but it can and did for me. Was the craziest trip I've ever taken (NOT that kinda trip!).

Started out simple, go out to Garden City and get my '70 Polara I put a deposit on. No motor or trans but it would make a great project, being 2-dr and all. For starters, we got delayed. My buddys Mom had to have surgery and couldnt leave right then, so we waited till 4 or so before taking off. We decided to dolly his Truck instead of my Dakota because mine uses less gas. Used a half tank by Wichita, and that was really great considering I was dollying a fullsize '89 Ram, not using OD, and going uphill and into the wind.

Before we got into Wichita, my oil pressure gauge goes dead. I'm thinking no pressure, thats wonderful! I stopped, no noises from the motor, its the sensor, thank goodness. We soldier on into Wichita, gas up, and go, put a little over 1/2 into it. Get near Dodge City and it loses power, at a 1/2 tank! WTF??? [smilie=l:

Limp into Garden city at about 50 mph or less, put 2 cans of HEET into it, put 20 into it, takes it to 3/4 from 1/4. It used a LOT of gas running bad, my guess is water from the Wichita station.

OK, hit Garden city and camp out for the night, little sleep (this comes into play later!), get up a little later than planned and head out to the guys house that has my car. Get there, its not there! WTF? Head into town and check some spots, nope, gone. .

So, to make things better, a '66 Sport Fury 2-dr HT gets substituted. Like my Polara, no motor or trans, but its in better shape than the Polara. Buckets/Console car, pretty nice interior actually. Lets just say that I'm happier with this car in the long run. :giggedy:

So, get back on the road, and outside of Garden, I'm at 1/4 tank. Guess what? The damn thing starts cutting out AGAIN! Limp about 20 miles into the nearest town at 30 mph, puts me dangerously behind schedule, as if I'm not already. I have to do the same dang thing, more HEET and a full tank this time. an older Lay filling up her car on the pump next to mine asks about the Fury, and if I'm gonna restore it, I say Yep! She thought it was a cool car. And tells me Good luck on it as well, that made my day.

Get outside of Wichita, at a little over 1/2 tank, decide to top it off, as I'm NOT going through that cutting out shit again. Had to be water. NOT going to go to that damn station that I did last night. Had a guy at another pump driving a 50s or 60s International walk up and ask about the car, He even said he thought it was a Chrysler product  . He thought it was a cool car too.

Make it outside of Wichita, decide to take a 2 hour nap at a truckstop. Significant because the Dolly was due back at 4-ish. So I have to shell out another $44 because I didnt make it back by closing.

So, I'm home now, dead dog tired but home nonetheless. And, dragging in my prize, my '66 Sport Fury. This ones a keeper for sure! Now if I can find a girl that I can keep and tolerates old cars, that'd be awesome as well!

So, in short, I ended up with a busted Oil pressure sensor, Water in my tank, an extra days Dolly rental, and a better car overall than the one I went to get!

:giggedy:

Sounds like a hell of an adventure! Glad to hear you got home ok and ended up with a better car than you went to get

good deal, I got some 66 furry stuff laying around when you get to it.
I parted a post and was gonna buy a sport (didn't happen)

Gosh, what a weekend! Glad you ended up liking the Fury. Would have been shitty to go back home with nothing on the trailer.
