Serpentine belts Hate or Love em

Personally I hate em> Give me a vbelt any day. At least they wont come of due to a puddle or a snow drift. My 94 Caravan 3.3 just ate it's belt today all because the spring loaded tensioner is wearing on an angle and thus the belt tracked to the right and off tearing a chuck out in the process. To top it off these are a biotch to reinstall. Got a new idler from Ma mMopar for$80 cdn as not available after market and the mounting is with a nut from underneath behind the ps pump but only with a long extention and a universal joint and a few blue words . What does everyone think about these? [smilie=n: [smilie=e:

Those are cake. [smilie=a:

Serp belts? Luv 'em, once you have installed a few thousand of 'em you learn to appreciate not having to loosen X amount of bolts/nuts and adjusters to install a new belt. But leave it to GM to fork up a good thing, they felt it was to easy to change the belt on certain models so they made it necessary to jack up the engine and remove the motor mount to change the belt. Forkers. :D

Hey Beep Maybe they are easy to install on a hoist from underneath but from up top or laying on the ground they are a biotch. Might also have helped if they gave a few more inches to be able to work on that side instead of that microscopic area. [smilie=b:

i hate changing the belts on my car ....its a giant finger trap and i can never get the wrench just right on the tensioner i can see someone losin a finger on them serpentine belts and their setup ....and to make it worse its all crammed into a small engine bay and you can hardly see where the dang pulleys are [smilie=b:

He-he, just ribbin ya. [smilie=i:

The hoist is the hot ticket for those..... [smilie=e: yup, cake. :D

I dunno...the one on my Ford, was WAYYY simpler than any V-belt Ive had the displeasure of dealing with...

sounds like the consortium of idiocy, that's been masqerading itself as Mopar, since the 70s, has found a way to make a cluster**** out of it...

oh, thats right wrong wheel drive... [smilie=e:

and I say AMEN to that!

More like Forked Wheel Drive if you ask me!

The only thing I like about serpentine belt is that they are so easy to take off.

What I hate about them.

$125 for a forking rubber belt!!!!!!!!???????? (My bosses '92 Chev, only the dealer sells the right belt.)

If you look at them too hard they will crack and fly apart.

Good forking luck trying to change one on the side of the highway when it's -40* outside.

You never get the forking belt routing right the first time.

I could go on all night about this.........

I can change the serp on our Durango in about a minute. Even on the side of the highway (yep, I've done it).

Looks like changing the tensioner is gonna be a biotch though, the bolt's kinda sorta hidden.

My friend Bob has a 90 cummins 3/4 ton and it got hot on him last summer and the tensioner bolt had snapped and he didnt realize it for almost 10 miles of woods drivin. While he was siting there letting it cool off someone else stopped and handed him the tensioner from where it fell off and I came out with a bolt and the belt was still good so we fixed it.Personally I like em. Yep, my father in laws supercharged buiik was the mother of all belt jobs. Take off power steering pump and passenger side motor mount. [smilie=n:

Yep Beeper! 97 GM's got that stinking motor mount right in the middle of the belt what einstein came up with that??? Well he worked at Ford first I think because my 93 SHO is kind of the same you have to take off the torq shocks to take off the blets on it !!!!!

my 97 RAM was cake 5 minute job spent more time following the picture on how to route it rather than cranking on tools!!!

I like em because they free up extra ponies. Don't they? And also because on rwd models it's easy to change them out. Just give me a six pack and a carton of smokes and I can get to work on that. Plus it makes on engine look pretty nice with the serp belt running. Cleaner engine compartment.

What sucks thought is that one that belt goes out, you're basically screwed. 1 belt running 3 or 4 components sounds kinda scary. It's a nightmare changing them on fwd cars. 'Specially if they are modded. Me and my buddy had a great time changing the serp belt on his Honda Civic Hatchback with that Jackson Supercharger. [smilie=e: We had to bust out the persuader (hammer) every now and then.

I'd get the March serpentine kits for my ride. Anyboby have them?...Peace
