Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Moved on to getting the car out to get some shots with the stripe on, that with my other added black accents , center caps, mirrors & hood scoops, completes my vision! 20250515_142827 - Copy.jpg 20250515_142855.jpg
Tail panels were always blacked out on the 'Cuda model. 20250515_142926.jpg
I miss the days when cars had character! 20250515_143026.jpg
Busy hood! 20250515_143055.jpg

Considering what this car has put me through I will do just that.
I have my 5 footer, a bunch of flaws in the paint, a couple of body panels a little off.
Having a little drive in meet here in emerson june 7th , I may hit my first one in 15 years or so.

All I have to say to any nit pickers is, can you say you did yours, from rust bucket to paint 99% by yourself in your back yard!

Dang, looks like rain for sat.
I went back to the A/C, it was empty again after about a week or so, picked up a few more cans with the stop leak (I never had any luck with that on central A/C units) but what the hey it doesn't cost any extra.
So all is going well, started up fine, kicked down & had a good idle, charged it up, still don't like the pressures I'm reading, high side is at the high end of the range, but the low is well below what it should be, it did blow pretty cold air so I left it like that.
All of a sudden the idle drops way off & the darn thing stalled, this is driving me nuts.
Raised the idle 1/4 turn % Took it for a ride & at stops it was way low, on the verge of stalling. I parked it & am glad I hid the sledge hammer!
Started it today, all is fine, idled it for quite a while, ran the A/C for a few minuets, already not really cold.
turned it off put it in & out of gear & no stall???????????
So I cleaned the carpet for sat, & took a look at a seam I had sowed, the guy said it probably won't hold I told him try it anyway.
Well it started to open up again, so I tried something crazy.
I had a really old super comfortable pair of sneakers I had glued in many places & most of the spots held, so I figured what the hey!
See what happens when I put my fat butt in it tomorrow! 20250605_161555.jpgSo I put a bead of krazy glue on the material under it & the edge of the seam, seemed to hold, so then I ran another bead along the split side, maybe I'll get lucky, these are the seat covers that came in the car all in pretty good shape, those, the new blue carpet & my accent stripe on the panels are the only blue left on what came to me as an all blue interior, problem was it was 12 different shades of blue!20250605_161804.jpg

My car does that but it tends to idle faster not slower. I'm starting to think I need to do something with the distributor; maybe the mech advance is sticking. That could be the problem with your car too, but working in the opposite direction. It's a real hassle to take the distributor apart to clean/lube the advance though.

That spot may be a great place to use that Loc-tiite Extreme glue. 🤔

Don't recall ever using that particular product, but I have heard many good comments. I've used Gorilla wood glue with excellent results.

As usual with this car mothing goes right, my first car show is rained out!
So I'm up way too early, already bored so I figured I put in the new washer pump.
Ran it just it case before I pulled it & nothing, pulled it, saw it was pretty empty so I filled it with water & hit it with some juice, dang that squirted pretty good, stick it back in & the sucker now squirts over the roof, bent the tips down a bit & put back the charcoal canister, now I have a spare washer pump.
Whole car got a rinse off! 20250607_120906.jpgSo while I had the charcoal canister out I blew through that hose, it is open to the air, so there should be no way that tank pulled a vac???

Had the whole crew over today, #1 sons youngest is turning 6, we did fathers day too, it was also the towns summer kickoff day & to top that all my #3 son & his wife are expecting their first child.
So to close out the day we went out the back gate to check out the fire works, not bad for a little town!

grandious finale............

So I took the 'Cuda out for a 4th cruise, still just local, the longer I drove the lower the idle went at stops, it did not stall on me.
Stopped to fill it up, figured I'd check the gas milage, took 9.74 gals. went a big 13 miles, my lord that don't add up, came out to 1.33 MPG, I think I have to stop idling so much & het it on the high way to get a better idea, hoping to get to at least 8 or 9!

2 days ago I charged the A/C again & took it out for a ride, same as before, longer I drove the lower the idle went ay stops, I was sick of looking at the oil warning light so I put the stock one back in at the same time dropped the new one & it lodged itself somewhere down there & could not find it!!!
It didn't stall till I was back home in the yard.

So today I raised the idle 1/4 turn, A/C was still blowing cold so I drove around with it on, Now my oil light doesn't even flash when the idle goes low like it did before, wondering if it even works now, with A/C on oil pressure dropped a little below 6 or 7.
She didn't stall, the last 15 mins. I turned the A/C off & at stops idle stayed a little higher, oil pressure at 10
When I pulled it in the garage & put it in park idle rose quite a bit, I'd guess 12 -15 hundred, I left it there!

Starting to feel a little more comfortable driving it!

If you ever need one, you know where there's a spare LOL

Hopefully it's not on the starter side where it might cause a short if it gets in the wrong place.

Top of starter I could see, top of tranny I could get my fingers in a little felt nothing, nothing on top of headers down low, it's a pretty big piece to just disappear.
After the drive it's probably laying on one of the streets I cruised.
I think I will just order a new stock one, trying to avoid the light on at every stop for someone buying the car to see!!!!!

Weather finally cooled down a bit, took a cruise around the hood, with the idle up a bit except for a slight bang into gear all seemed good, oil pressure held around10-12 at stops, did not feel like it was going to stall & throttle response is good.
I may be brave enough to listen to my 700 freakin dollar radio next time out!
