Back in 2011, Chryslerpatented a way to warn drivers if they loaded up their pickups (or chassis cabs, or vans) over their rated capacity.
Satish Panse wrote that such awarning system is increasingly needed as buyers choose air suspensions,which Ram currently sells, because they do not let the truck “sag” under heavy loads. Therefore, operators can easily overload them. The system appears to be relatively inexpensive but the details may not have been worked out fully; it would have to be completely and consistently reliable over the life of the vehicle to be acceptable.
