Picked up two more dusters today

Hi all,

John (wontgetdusted) and I went riding yesterday, looking for two dusters his dad had told him about. We found them parked around the side of a repair shop. As it turns out, the owner was willing to sell, so I struck a deal yesterday and came back today to get them. One is a '73, the other is a '74. Both are /6 auto cars, and both have 4 wheel drum brakes. Now, here's where it gets kinda weird for me:

Both have small bolt pattern wheels. I thought that ended in '72. Then, to make it even weirder, when I took them to where I store all my stuff, which is a field out in the country. Many other old mopars are there, and I happened to notice that a '74 duster belonging to someone else has the small bolt pattern too! That car is a disk brake car. At this point I was thoroughly confused, so I went and checked the bolt pattern on my '76 feather duster. Small pattern there too! (?)

Have I been completely misunderstanding the rules concerning bolt patterns on a bodies for years? What gives?

Oh, on my new dusters-I did not have a camera with me. Neither runs, neither is beat to hell either. There's almost certainly a good pair of fenders between the two of them, and maybe a 3rd one with a little welding and grinding. The trunk floor in one of them is PERFECT as far as I could see. The other came without keys, and I haven't had time to break in to the trunk through the backseat yet.

It'll be Monday at the very earliest, as I'm gonna be doing the relative thing until then. Well, I gotta try to go check on another duster tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I'll get a chance.

i was under the understanding that small bolt had stoped in 72 as well...tho ive seen a hadnfull of later ones that snuk past the big bolt swap but NEVER seen a small bolt disk 72+ that hadnt been done by someone OTHER than the factory

I have a 73 Duster S6 auto that had front disc brakes with the larger bolt pattern 10-3/4" unicast rotors, swapped them with my 70 Satellite/RR drum brakes. I was told that 73 up A bodies were the ones to snag.

Yup - you can slide on the 11.5 or 10.87 unicasts by using the 73 up A body or 71 up E body spindles. The caliper adapters are different for the different diameter rotors of course, so get the right ones for your needs. However now most know about these and are no longer available at $20 a pair of so.:)

Wonder who the wise old Mopar fart was that told me to use this setup in the first place. By the way, thank you, they worked out danm nice.

ALL A-Bodies with DRUM brakes had the SBP (5 on 4), even '73-up. I'd say that '74 you saw with the earlier setup probably had drums and the owners didnt want to go to the LBP stuff so they used an earlier disk setup. ALL '73-up A-Bodies had the 1-piece rotors and the LBP (5 on 4.5)!
