I am doing some flames on the 70RR. Not big, long hot rod flames.
Just a small set to enhance, so to speak. They are to emphasize the engine and the power under the hood. I like flames . But on a mopar . you can't ,IMO, just slap them on.After all , Its a muscle car not a hotrod.
So what do you think of this flame pattern?
Should I go with depth, and shade the flames whith reds, yellows .?
Or pinstripe?
Anyone have a paint program to work with this.

What do you think? Really ? Let me have it.:shifty:

Personally I thing front wheelwell flames are kinda cheesy and generic. I would go with some ghost flames over the hood and fenders, maybe flowing about 1/2 way down the doors. Would look alot better in my opinion. Subtle is good;)

I second ghost flames... although the pattern you have there isn't bad... I kind of agree with Fishboy on that one...

But...then again, I see so few cars with flames these days that it might be cool...

id go more traditional ..those are a bit ricey imo...60s cars can be tricky to flame in a way that helps not hurts...red/yellow/orange doesnt work here monotone works but must be pin'ed as well..ghoast is by far the best way to go buit not always easy/cheep

the wheelwell idea is cheesy...but if stretched out a bit it "can" work

tomaro i will go out and snap a pic in the daylight of what i did on my fish...mind you i did it to make up for "replaced" fenders

Yeah I was kinda thinkin of your car when I was describing my opinion of what he should do. :D

Really? I was thinkin the fender w/w flames would work. But then again I am not a designer.

i need pics. of ghost flames on the hood .

What about the real-flame look at the w/w?

IMHO...no flames. ghost or otherwize...you need a really GOOD paint job to pull off the ghost flame deal...flames on acrylic enamel just doesn't come across,it's just too thick even with lots of white fade...IMHO...it's your car do it the way you like it...Your car looks GREAT the way it is.:)

sorry, don't like it. nice car, though. but i really think with a car like that the viewers attention should be focused on what's under the hood, not what's on the fenders.

If you're going over the existing paint, and not re-clearing the whole panel you're flaming, the tape lines are going to be extremely sharp and obvious. That's why so many flames on top of an existing paint job have the edges striped. If I were doing it, I'd prep the entire area for paint, mask 'em up (and I like longer flame licks), shoot the flames in a tangerine pearl, with more application in the curves between the flames, and more at the tips, leaving the rest VERY ghosty, then clear over the whole thing (2 coats), sand w/800, and apply 2 more coats. That should give you enough base to cut & buff, and have the lines buried under the clear. 2 coats per app is just a guideline, some prefer 3. Adjust for your own personal style of shooting paint. Let us know how it turned out.
P.S. If you pinstripe the edges, do it in a contrasting color.

Thanks for the honest reply's. Honestly kinde feel the same way.
I can wipe them off w/ thinner.

I REALLY, REALLY want the Real flame look over the entire nose , someday.:doubt:
But to do that I would paint the car semigloss black overall.
Rid the scoop and place put a six-pac glass hood.

Can you picture it?

Its acually a hotwheels car.:o

I got the idea to paint my trim rings red , because of this cars wheels:toot:

I am gonna have to start saving. ALOT!

Rallye stripes all around it, either black or white- even through the bumpers and put some ghost flames in the stripes right behind the wheel wells. You can do a quick stencil and hold it in different positions and then clear the whole stripe before you unmask. Hey - its all good practice.;)
