The NHTSA isalready expanding its airbag investigations beyond Takata, moving to inflator supplier ARC Automotive.
The investigation — the agency is only gathering data now — is based on two complaints, one from 2009 (the minivan) and one from 2015 (the Kia sedan). The airbags were used in around 420,000 2002 Town & Country minivans and 2004-on Kia Optima cars. At this time, there is only an investigation, with the agency gatheringinformation from the automakers. There are no known fatalities, and the airbags were assembled by different suppliers — Key Safety Systems for Chrysler and Delphi for Kia.
