Need a new PC

except for those of us running multiple machines with minimum of 3+tb per machine of storage..never mind the server with 20+ after raid

heck my "main" beast here has 16tb of drives and of that 4tb is free space spread across 5 drives

ive been hording up on 35-45$ refurbed hitachi nas drives, dependable and rock solid

why so much?.years of data, pics etc, and the slow slow proccess of sorting everything..one can only spend so long doing it at any given time before...squirrel!

I’m going to flex a bit . This is my main server.

Storage, if I remember correctly is 4 x 4GB in a RAID something something..plus a M.2 boot drive.
but there’s room for a dozen more drives.

As for the PC that I ordered, it’s been delayed twice again, but I can’t find the same or better that’s readily available except for some that are several hundred dollars more and fall short on RAM - my main concern with the new rig.

Ladies and gentlemen, here's Mr. Fancy!

Nice rig! No threading issues there whatsoever, but that's hyper-critical stuff on a server with multiple stations constantly hitting it. I'm guessing you meant 4x4TB? My MP3s alone would barely fit on 16GB.

Sorry. Yeah. TB

This thing is setup as a vmWare ESXi host on which I run a bunch of virtual appliances, servers and workstations. It’s a lab for my work, but I can put whatever I want on it. I’ll just need to clean it up if I ever have to return.

It sounds like a jet engine with just one power supply in use and the cooling fans set to “economy”.
It averages about 200W of power usage. Not bad at all. Likely not much more than the two machines that I turned off when I got this one.

How long does it take to assemble a PC?

It went into production on the 25th.
Screenshot taken on the 28th.

Never mind that it’s been 3 months since I ordered. I don’t even care about that.
I just can’t fathom production taking more than a few hours when I do it myself…and have to go back and forth, up the stairs, to the garage to get another tool, and back down to my office..at least a couple times, and fend off the bird that wants to “help”, and stop for dinner.

It‘s just comical now. I’m enjoying it.

Ya know how you get a "Shipped!" notification as soon as the sender creates a shipping label?

Yeah, that's all I've got. 5 days ago.
If I believe it, then it's been sitting on the dock for 5 days.

It's Purolator. They're pretty good at updated the status. So, I believe it.

LOL!

"Out for delivery"

I wonder how many days ti will take to get halfway across town. :p
Good question. I had a package sitting at the post office--literally a quarter-mile from my house--since Tuesday. The preceding Sunday it lasted at the other post office (twin cities) and sat there for two days.

I just got it yesterday. Gotta love the USPS.

It arrived. The novelty has already worn off. :/

I have software loading to do, though.
And I need a new monitor cable, but I’m good with one for now.
A benefit I didn’t expect: the audio is amazing. Same speakers as before, but just much more enjoyable audio quality.

I hope and pray that someday the "a blue LED on everything" novelty will also wear off. We get it, they finally invented blue LEDs in the late 1990s. They also managed white, purple and pink around the same time. We're over it.

I can change the colour and make it shift or pulse. :P
I've changed it to red.

That alien face is the power button. So, it isn't completely superfluous to have it lit up like that.
It also changes to a pale yellow when the PC goes into sleep mode.
It probably changes to other colours when other things happen. I don't know. It's under my desk.

There is another LED (or more) that lights up the entire oval. Yeah, I turned that off.
