Raodrunners Rock!
So for those of you that do not know my plight, let me get you up to speed here. I have a car that needs work, and I can not do it myself. I also am trying to avoid the 70 bucks an hour needed for a good mechanic because some of the stuff that needs doing is not as tough as the other, but is requires a hoist, and at least lifting, if not pulling the motor. I don't have the tools to do the job.
It got me to thinking about when I took automotives in high school. I pulled the tranny out of a car back then. Our shop never charged for labour or anything--and the basic jobs were all done relatively well.
I figured maybe I ought to try the local college to see if their shop would be able to to this job. Basically I need to fix a couple oil leaks in my engine. Any ideas if this is a worthwhile place for me to take my car? It seems as though this may be an acceptable place to reseal the oil pan and plug the hole in my firewall from the old column tranny.:hmmm:
Your thoughts?
V
PS: My father is on good terms with the president of the school and might be able to pursuade the man in the automotives program to let his best students work on the car. The bottom side is that I can not work with them to learn more about my car, but might help me get it back on the road sooner.
PSS: The school also has an autobody program. How about taking it to them to strip to metal, and perhaps paint, or even weld new rocker panels etc too?:hmmm:
