My story...1000+ miles in 25 hours....

You have a lot of people on here with a lot of envy for what you are about to get into.

My original plans would have given me about 4,000 sq. ft. of garage area, but local building codes wouldn't have let me without jumping through legal hoops, added expense to the actual building and wasted time jumping these hoops.

Originally I had a 24' x 30' that allowed one car to fit in. After moving my "collection" into 2 buildings of 28' x 36' I've pretty much run out of room.

From the way it sounds, with the "collection" you have, you'll need at least the equivalent of a 4 car garage. Granted, the bigger it is, the more it will cost. But you've only got one chance to do this right. The regrets you will feel for scrimping will haunt you forever.

Too bad 6packrunner doesn't stop in more often. He built a garage of great envy. I can't remember the dimensions, but I'm gonna guess about 40' x 40', 2 story. The upper floor has a hoist on a rail and a heavy duty bench that runs the length of the back wall.

Now that DOES sound like a sweet set-up!

With 4 acres, and living outside the city limits...we are in the regional district, so technically farm land....I shouldn't have issues with land allocation to build a big shop. ;)

Our realtor up in PG told us that the cost of a bog shop up there is pretty much always a 100% return on your money if/when you sell.

Nice looking shop! Not sure what direction I will take...have to see what I can figure out. Cost is a bit of a factor...so a pole barn that I can finish in stages, over a number of years, would be a good idea as well.

Was talking with a guy who did just that....multi stage big pole barn shop.

First year got the poles up and roof on.
Second year was siding and windows and doors.
Third year was electrical and plumbing,
Then fourth year was concrete floor and insulation.
Then 5th year drywall and finishing.
He said he budgeted about $10-15K a year.

I have always admired 6pack's build.... building!

The exterior gives little clue to whats hiding inside. And I'm not just talking about the treasures that he's collected over the years. The general layout of how he's assembled this is mesmerizing. As I earlier stated about the upstairs, it has a multitude of storage room and a bench running across the backside heavy enough to support a complete 440. :hail:

something to consider on a pole barn...."if" you can find em free...insulate/sound deaden for SEVERAL years(or forever) with old cubicals...make sure they are the mesh metal type not the solid wood..and you will have AMAZING insulation and insane sound deadening at the same time...just screw em to the main frame of the shop...bonus points as to the fact that they are pretty well fire proof....this lends you to being able to "use" it once you have walls up without suffering the heat or the cold..or the noise...they kill the echo factor too

He just posted pictures of it while cleaning it out.
Some of the cars are going bye-bye, too.

From one picture it looked like there is room for two car widths at the back of the shop so that a car can be pulled into a bay. AND there is still room for shop stuff.
