Musty magazines

Good time party boy
I picked up some old Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines from the 60's and really early 70's last weekend and they stink. Is there any way to get the funk out of them? I like reading them and checking out the old ads but that smell is just about enough to make a person ralph :silenced:

I've a large stack of boxes full of Car Craft, Hot Rod ect..etc.. from the eightys and early 90's. Want 'em? Come and get 'em, no extra charge for the funky smell btw. ;) :D

Not a bad idea since I read them in the bathroom mostly anyway :D

Can't never have enough magazines. I may take you up on that.

Not a whole lot you can do. Airing them out on a warm sunny day helps a bit, but once moisture and mildew gets into the paper, it's hard to eliminate the smell...

MOTHBALLS! :shifty:

How do you tell the males from the females?:hmmm:

Do the male moths get pist when you castrate them?:toot:

You don't have to hunt for them anymore guys!

They have HUGE moth farms that harvest the balls and package them for sale all over the world!

You can find a box of them at Wal-Mart! :D

I'd just get horney cuz it'd remind me of my old playboy collection rescued from a park trash barrel.

I did manage to to get through a stack of musty old Mad Magazines purchased from a thrift store. Tossed 'em when cat pissed all over them.

The wonders of Google:

1. In a large paper bag put a layer of Charcoal (not quick light ) then, lay two sheets of typing paper, then the book, fold over top wait 5 days before opening. ( I think it's safe to say that you can place say, 5 magazine in there at a time?)

2. Another good way to get rid of the smell is to put the offending book in a sealed plastic bag of dry cat litter (dollar stores usually have it).

Depending on how "bad" the book is, it usually comes out good as new without some horrible chemical smell. Try a couple of days for medium smell, maybe as long as 3 weeks for a really bad smell. Lots of other ways, but this one is cheap.

3. To remove musty smell from a book, put a sheet or two of newspaper in between every few pages. Also wrap the book itself loosely in newspaper. Put it in a box for a few days. Change the newspaper a couple times every few days. Takes a little time, but it works.

I think those are worse. I walked past a few cars at a show last weekend that had that smell pouring out of the windows and wondered how the owners could stand driving it with that smell in there.

Thanks manny. I'll have to try some of those.

FEBREEZE (air freshener), baking soda, or IRISHSPRING soap ( chipped), or charcoal all would work the way mANNYE says to use. the sun helps with mould too.
i like the nose plug idea!!
