Musicians?

Ok I'm bored and was just wondering how many musicians we have here. No I don't mean that one time you played a flatulent note on your butt-trumpet:bwuhaha: What instrument(s) you play? How long ya been playin? What style music you usually play? In a band? Yeah I know I'm being nosy again:shifty: No apologies though :D

I've been playing guitar about 15 years off and on. I play mostly metal and classic rock stuff. Not in a band but might be getting one together this summer. Tail Gunner seems to be the working title with the 3 of us that wantr to form the band so far. Just need to find a drummer:cool:

use a car idle for drummer :p
Well I do love the way Alex Van Halen did it in the intro to Hot For Teacher:dance: I know ZZ Top has done it on a few songs too. Love that stuff!:p

Drummers. Ive had some good ones and Ive had some real duds too. They all have brain damage from being too close to the cymbles- the vibrations cook their brain cells. The best ones are the younger guys which you can break in right. With someone good you can tighten right up and keep it going no matter how far out the rest of the drunks get. Ive had gigs that felt like I was tied up and whipped afterwards and others that went so well you didnt want to quit. The last drummer I had ended up living with me for about 6 monthes along with his lazy ass fat ol lady and and 3 kids 6 cats and 2 dogs. I fed them and found him a job. He quit the job, took my drums, left all his junk cars here and joined another band. Good luck.

I Play guitar. Been playing for 38 years. Been in a few bands. Almost made it once. I was in a band called Moxxie, we were rehearsing at a studio where Motley Crue was recording pre production work. They heard us and their people contacted our people about opening up for them on their Eastcoast tour.
Unfortunately it was 3 months after we had broken up and could not get back together, long long story. Short version, I threw the singers girl friend off the stage into the crowd at a gig. [smilie=f: At the time we were playing heavy original rock.
These days I play in a band called "Waiting for Helen" in my home 24 track recording studio. Our Cd should be ready soon :doubt: any year now:bwuhaha:
Mostly playing blues rock now.

I play guitar. Off and on for about 28 years. I took lessons a few times, but once I learned 2 barre chords I figured I was ready to tour.
I've only just recently started working on a "style" which has been mainly an SRV shuffle using the blues pentatonic scale and just winging it.

I wouldn't say I know what I'm doing, but I accidentally figure stuff out once in a while and just keep rolling with it. I have a handful of books and DVDs to learn from. Now I just need a round tuit.

Oh, and Fishy, Eddie does most of that "throttle" with his guitar. Alex doesn't come in until very near the end of the intro...

Set your guitar on the bridge pickup; lots of gain; a nice amount of distortion... (my pedal has a setting called Van Halen.)
now mute the strings close to the bridge with edge of your right hand leaving your index and middle finger free to "drum" on the strings. Also, mute the strings with the edge of your left hand somewhere below the neck. Leave your index and middle finger free to drum. Try not to push the strings down onto the pickups - I do that all the time..

Now, drum with the 4 fingers that you have free...
A quad, as you probably know, is a 1,2,3,4 with 4 different appendages. Well, in this case the appendages are those fingers and it's easy to do...

My friend told me about Eddie does some funky thing on his guitar YEARS ago and I didn't believe him. But I tried to figure it out within just the last month, and apart from not having the quad pattern down quite yet , I've got it sounding exactly like the album...

I have a few of those tracks. Great stuff!

I play guitar as well. I'm not really all that good at it. I started when I was 12 and took lessons for a few years but haven't played it a whole lot in the past 5-6 years but now I've got a bug in my ass to play it and learn some different stuff (if I can).

UHm, you sure bout that?!:wtf: That sounds like all double kick to me.....never heard a guitar sound like that.

*Edit* Just read your description of how Ego...er Eddie does it....will have to try it but I still think it's all bass drums in the intro hotrod part.

Sounds close but still doesn't have that POP SNAP sound...still think it's drums.:dgt:

i can play mary had a little lamb on the piano. That was the extent of my musical instrument career.

that good?

I took piano lessons when I was in the first grade. My mom was a church organist for almost 20 years and I was always around it so it came to me easily. Got kicked out of class for calling my teacher a bad name. Played coronet in high school because my uncle had one I could use. I started playing guitar which I taught myself and played polka in bars at 14. Ive never been what I would call good on it but after I almost took my index finger off in a chain saw accident I started playing bass. That was about ten years ago and I recently acquired a 5 string so I get to learn all over again. I CAN sing pretty good believe it or not so I end up doing most of the sets on lead vocal position- which can be a stretch in a smoky old bar. When I get my good drum kit back from my old drummer Ive got 3 different people ready to try out. I do have a couple other kits but not any good hardware right now. Everybody keeps asking when we are going to get back at it and I hope its soon.:hmmm:

WELL, this says he's plays it and explains how,
http://experts.about.com/q/Van-Halen-632/hot-teacher-played.htm

but still, after hearing my own guitar do it... I'm buying the guitar answer.
Alex playing triplets? I didn't think he was that good...
That link mentions nothing of Eddie. It's all about Alex. We are talking about the same part right? The "poppadapoppapoppadapop" "hotrod" engine sounding part in the very beginning right?:wtf:

Sorry, that link says that ALEX does it and not Eddie.

My friend told me it was Eddie and I didn't believe him until I heard it for myself - it's convincing even when I can't get the right rhythm.

Well I'm sure you can get a similar sound outta a guitar, I have been messing with my guitar on all sorts of settings and found a couple that were close but doesn't have near the same crisp sound. Maybe Eddie does this part with Alex live? But on the album version it's only drums. That is a beotch of a rythm to get on guitar the way you described too but it sounds decent of ya can get it.
