Mopar guys are the greatest.

One of our customers is building a wicked 66 New Yorker with a stroked big block 4:88 gears and overdrive. Hella cool.

Anyhow a few months ago we were discussing my need to build another tranny for the RR and he mentioned an overhaul kit he had sitting around just collecting dust. "I should bring that by for ya" he said. No need I replied I'll just pick one up when I'm ready.....

Today he brought his wifes Escalade in for new tires along with the trans kit, insisting I accept it gratis. Of course how could I turn him down? :)

It's got Alto clutches and steels along with new bands and everything else needed for a complete overhaul..friggen awesome.
And free!

I really needed that today, just to remind me there are still a few good people left in this crappy world. :xl:

Very cool. Glad to see there are a few folks out there who will help someone out just because it's a nice thing to do. Not because they have something they can get out of it :)

That's awesome Beeper! Mopar peeps are the best. His project sounds like something I would do... hmmm... I have a 4:88 center chunk in the garage **wheels turning**

ya say an overdrive huh?

Good score, Beep. There are still some generous souls out there. Last week, a gentleman gave me the correct dual snorkel air cleaner for my Sport Satellite, just because he's no longer into the muscle era cars.:giggedy:

I know how it feels Boots. i look in my mail box to and there is nothing. i had a piece of junk mail once. but it was out of date so i put it in the neighbours . he was happy. i put on it FOR YOU . he thot that was great. . his wife hates me. so i make him happy with stuff like that. :bwuhaha:

Incentive indeed jass. :)

And yet more goodness to report, a big shout out and thank you to boothead for supplying a right dandy factory radio for the beeper. Way cool.

As a result of all this mopargoodyness I've been doing something not been done in at least a couple years...working on the car and actually enjoying myself. That and the now heated garage certainly helps. ;)

The once hacked gauge cluster is now replaced with a freshly detailed unmolested unit complete with a factory correct radio...finally. And the heater controls actually work again.
When the weather finally begins to warm I'll dig that core tranny out of the shed.....

Yup, definate goodness.

I know you didn't care, but does it work?

Don't know, I didn't bother hooking it up as the original dash speaker has long been replaced by a pair of modern aftermarket speaks that connect to the now displaced Kenwood head unit..still working on a plan to relocate that. :hmmm:

It's just nice to see the dash looking as it should again, I used to hate those oodball looking radios...now they are a thing of beauty. ;)

Put the Kenwood under the seat, and get a remote repeater like Stretch. Or, if you don't mind cutting something else, get a spare dash plate and neatly trim it around the spot where the center AC vents would be to fit around the Kenwood... that hole in the dash structure is almost perfectly sized, and makes a right-dandy place to mount a DIN sleeve... that's how I had it in my '73 Rallye.

Had I known you were detailing the dash, I'd have given you some little tips that make all the difference in the world once it's reassembled... but noooo, don't ask the guy that lived for two years making junkyard stuff pretty for resale. :D

:p

Actually I completely disassembled the cluster and used my original gauges as they are in pretty decent shape. Cleaned everthing real good and used a silver paint pen to "restore" the rubbed off chrome trim on the pods. Turned out pretty good and the paint pen was a breeze to use.
The woodgrain on this one was a tad lighter than the original and it turned out pretty good for 37 year old stuff. I'm happy. :)

Now I need to do some touch up painting on the dash frame and call it good enough.

That dashplate idea is a dandy, I just happen to have an extra dashplate laying around. Hmmmm....:hmmm:

I was gonna respond here with some tips, but your is already done. So, I went to the Archive area and put some cluster restoration tips here instead... they'll be more-easily found there in the future.
