Migraines!?!?!?

Not me, Will, my 8 yo son has been having migraines off and on for almost a year, now they have gotten worse and are coming in "clusters". He went to see the Dr today and was prescribed 2 pain killers, and put on a list to see a nuerologist to find out what's causing them... it sucks watching your child suffer and you can't do anything, and can't give them any more medicine because they may OD(he's already on a HIGH dose)!!! He's taking ibuprofen, and tylenol rotating every 3 hours to keep them for coming back, it helps but they are still coming

I just need to vent, and try to clear my head a bit...
now I must work on my praying

WRONG things to be takeing!

see if you can get him on "axert".....it works for my wife's which are VERY VERY bad and she gets em in clusters too....mine i get REALY bad ones every once in a great while ..take it just as one is comeing on and it never hits ya...and seemingly no ill effects

that's too bad to hear 71--
Something you might want to consider is having a food allergen/intolerance test.

I feel for your son. I get them now and then, although not like I use to. I get them so bad I can’t function. My vision is blurred and I vomit during them. Nothing seems to help except sleep in a very dark room with a wet rag over my eyes and just waiting them out. Pills seem to lighten them slightly but not enough to go on with my dally activities.

My son, now 33, suffered with Migraines from about age 14. I've watched him go from normal to throwing up in the fetal position within minutes many times.
Helpless is an understatement. He uses Imitrex, sometimes it only reduces the severity and length of the attack, but thats a lot.

Good luck and best wishes to your son and you.

When his migraines start he sees flashes of light in his eyes. He cries which of course make it worse. He has no warning signs its about to come. It just hits him.

69.5Cuda.....he can't take anything stronger than that because of his age and the fact he needs more medical test run on him. He was getting them about once a month but now they can't get them to go away.

He had 2 on Saturday, 1 on Sunday, and 4 on Monday. So far none today.

I have tried to get him to lay down in the dark with cold rags but that doesn't do anything. He was so worn out yesterday from them he tried to go to sleep. He had 2 of the migraines while trying to fall asleep.

Hey 71, REALLY sorry to hear your son is having problems. Very sad when kids suffer. :(

What is his name... Sue and I would be happy to add him to the prayer list if you would like.

His name is Will.... how come you didnt tell me about this Bro? mom never told me either.... i feel like i live on a deserted island....

Spawn...he started having migraines about a year ago but they were on and off. Then this weekend they got bad. I just took him to the doctor yesterday. I called mom after I left the doctors. While we were talking and on the way to get his scripts he had another one.

that sucks.... i never knew anything about it.... and like i said.... mom didnt tell me anything.... hope he starts feeling better.... that aint anything a kid should have to go through.... hell i dont want to go through em....

Did you ever have any as a kid or teenager? Bill remembers having them in his teens. They say that migraines are genetic. Moms dad had them, mom has them, bill had them and now Will does. The doctors also say now we have to keep a close eye out for Jason too.

Am I the only one who sees this, or did maybe the dr. mis-diagose this and now it's much worse?

Will had never been to the doctor before yesterday. Since my mom in law had them there seemed to be no reason to. He would have a headache about every couple of months. When he started to have what the doctor called 'cluster migraines' is when we took him in. They said that they will get worse and come more often now that he is getting older. Which is another reason they want him to have a brain scan.

Sorry Spawn, I figured the female parental unit would've told ya

Thanks everyone, talking really seems to help ease the burden. ChargerChick is going to take him into the church tomorrow evening and have the pastor pray for/with him. :helpme:

Well Will went for a CT Scan yesterday. The reults were negative. Which is a good thing and bad. The bad part is still that they have no clue what is causing them. He has missed 3 1/2 days of school this week because of them.

He also went back to the hospital about 8pm last night. He was having severe chest pains. So they hooked him up to EKG's and did a ECHO on him. All the test said that is heart is ok but due to all the meds it is causing excessive air and gas in the top part of his stomach. It is putting too much pressure on his lungs. So now he has 3 other meds to take.

I am taking him back to the doctors this morning to talk about more options for him. Hopefully he can get into the neurologist really soon. It's the major option left since all other test are saying he is fine but nothing conculsive to help.
