Met the guru....

J.C. Corbett

or something.....
....and I wanted to punch him in the face. That's right, while walking around the auction yesterday at Hot August Nights (a great benefit of living in Reno), I had the extreme displeasure of meeting god. Actually, it was Galen G., but he was sure he was god.

So, I'm standing looking at a VERY nice black V code 'Cuda, with my dad, when this dork with a backpack proceeds to move me out of the way, aim his digital camera at the fender tag, take a pic, then move me out of the way again, to get to the next car. Later, I'm looking at a nice Coronet R/T, and this guy tries the same move on my dad, who nicely moves, then this prick proceeds to give me the "move, don't you know who I am?" stare, expecting that I'll get out of his way, just because his shirt says Galen on it. I made him wait, because my time spent with my dad is all to infrequent, and I'm sure not going to let this self absorbed asshat(my favorite name) get in the way of it, so he can have a picture of a tag. All I can say is, what a fucking prick! It's one thing to walk around and act like a big shot, but physically moving people because you think they owe it to you? I can guarantee one thing, this guy will never look at anything I own, no matter how rare or desirable, and will never see a dime of mine for his books or decoding. When guys like this get involved, it taints the hobby.

Okay....I'm done ranting. Carry on.:shifty:

I am sure he was just busy and had to get all the vin tags he must have loved the hobby at one point to get in this deep.

Sooooo, if I read that right, are you saying Gay-lynn is a taint then?

:bwuhaha:LOL!!!

it's so simple.. "Wow! this sure is a nice car, do you mind if I grab a shot of the fender tag?. thanks" Not "outta my way foo I got clones to document!"

I guess I should add to this by saying that this incident didn't ruin the whole experience, but shed one individual in a very poor light.

Hot August Nights, on the whole, is something every car guy & gal, regardless of brand loyalty, should see once. I've been going to it for 15 years, and it gets better. What strikes me the most is how much the quality of the cars has increased since I started coming. 15 years ago, there was a lot of cars with decent paint jobs, velour interiors, and faded chrome & stainless. What you might call 20 footers. Anymore, those cars are basically nonexistent, with the majority of cars having excellent paint, body, brightwork, interior, and detail work. The coolest part is, most don't arrive on trailers. These people get out and drive 'em. Last count I heard was 5000 cars entered in the show, and another easy 5000 out on the streets, and at unsanctioned shows. It's become so big, it's hard to take it all in during the week that it runs. :giggedy:

Sooooo, next year, any of you who can should jump a plane into Reno during the first week of Aug. I have room, beer, and I know how to bbq.:bravo:

I might just take you up on that. :)

I had gg decode my stupid bee because it makes it easier to insure. As I've been saying for years, there is absolutely nothing he can do that the interweb community can't do better and in a more positive way. Thankfully he becomes less and less relevant everyday. Reap what you sow gg.

with a french name like galen govier should he be documenting and decoding chevys ?

I bought a NOS front bumper from him, an' he only charged me $150...

actually from what I was told from a reliable source was that Galen was the janitor for chrysler in the 60s and 70s. so when they tossed out their old info, he went dumpster diving and saved it.

I've met him 2 times, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. I would however pull up a chair and crack a beer.

I can guarantee one thing said:
One of my buds bought his books and after meeting sir asshat gladly makes copies for his friends so they dont buy them off of him.

Let me know, I might be able to get a copy of said white books for postage only:cool:

Please enlighten a non numbers idiot...
What would one of his books do? Is it just fender tag, vin decoding? Or is it breakdown of numbers on a particlar breed, year, colour etc...?
Would said book help said idiot become more knowledgable, because said idiot want's to learn?

MG, you have a PM, Wunderless These books decode almost all the parts on every mope made from 62-74 for part and casting numbers and 69-74 for options.
