Dazright, yo... I begin training 06/15/04 in the AM as the first assistant manager of Advance Auto Parts' newest shop: Store #6452. It'll be nice to be back in the rat race after nearly 22 months of unscheduled vacation.
It's a strong company--2600 stores, 2nd-largest auto-parts retailer in the U.S. (AutoZone is first, NAPA a distant 3rd). They have a strong corporate plan and what seems to be an awesome approach to a local parts market which most folks think is saturated. I've been quite impressed with everything so far; I think this store is gonna really play hell with the local market. We'll know soon enough, I guess...
Surprisingly (to me), the wage is more than I was making as an engineer in the communications field; they also have an excellent benefit package including discount company-stock options and 75% matching on contributions to my 401k (so long as I'm over 5.65% deduction--cake at this wage [smilie=e
. The health insurance is a reasonable fee and includes optical and dental (I'll finally be able to see how much work my teeth really need
).
Most importantly, my life will now get back on track... I can get this house whipped into shape, and maybe even (finally) get a date set so Lumpy and I can get married.
Do I seem stoked? I'm stoked.

- 1) I may not make the Nats this year; it's almost certain I'll miss the cookout.
2) This will slow down the progress I've been making on my car.
3) My eBaying will suffer
4) Less time for the junkyards
5) I won't be around the board much.
- 1) I'm employed, what's not to like?
2) Strong company with big goals they're achieveing early.
3) Fat paycheck means I don't need eBay to live.
4) Quality employment helps with "I need a license" argument.
5) Time spent yarding can be more for myself than resale value.
6) More money for everything, including the projects in the garage.
7) I won't be around the board much.
