Local cruise scene...

Good time party boy
...ain't what it's been in past years :( At least not so far. I'm not sure if the gas prices have forced people to keep their cars in the garage or what. I did happen to catch this at the A&W last night though. Not sure where the owner was but from looking it over, it looks to have a fibreglass trunk lid (probably hood as well), 4-link in the rear with a narrowed Dana, the obvious blower and fenderwell headers and the interior included two racing buckets and a roll cage. I noticed he did some lightening of the car in the way of drilling holes in the fender support brackets as well as in the aluminum seat brackets. Scariest thing of all: drum brakes on the front [smilie=2:

for picture with flash.

Now for my stupid question of the day: each header had a line coming out of it just before the collectors that disappeared up into the engine compartment (it's visible in both pictures directly behind the front tire). What is it for?

loose drum brakes = no drag = go faster. WIN! WIN! WIN!

A little lighter on unsprung weight too.

So there's my stupid question of the night; Weight of disc. vs drum, even an 11 inch by 3 has got to be lighter ,no?

admitedly the stock larger brakes of an A-body can be a lil hairy on the far end of the track but you learn to accept it ..and there ALOT lighter than even the small bolt disc's

The bikers are also helping to discourage the cruise scene by monopolising what used to be "car guy" hang outs. They are being quite ignorant, parking their bikes around and near to people cars, blocking them in if they feel they are sitting in "their" spaces.

There was almost a fight at the Burger Baron a couple weeks ago over it.

The hoses coming from that dart are for a serious crankcase evacuation system. There are fittings welded into each header and the hoses run to a breather much like the stock mopar breather mounted in each valve cover.

Nice car!

Any pics of that Couger sliding by in the background?

Sad to say, the cruise scene around these parts is drying up as well.
Not that it ever was stellar, but for awhile it was improving.
A local car club has taken over the A&W cruise night, and it is going downhill. Fast.
Too many "experts" thinking their car is better than anyone else's, too much gossip pertaining to these lesser cars and their owners, and just general snobbishness is keeping most folks away.
Fuel doesn't help, but I think most people want to enjoy their car and will spend a little on fuel if the atmosphere at the cruises is better.

There is a large number of good looking and performing machines around here (and they're not all muscle cars), but by and large, you'll see them at the cruise once and then they're gone for good.

You guys hae a cruise scene!?! *sigh*

One of the best around here was a Sunday "after Church" gathering that seems to have disappeared late last year. They ran it like a mini car show with a PA system and prizes and entertainment. The best thing about it was that it was wide open and you just had to show up with your car. No fees. and it was different every week. There was a small core of regulars that, in large part were responsible for putting the thing together. beyond that, you could expect to see something different every week. now, I don't know of anything going on around here.

Resto: - The club I belong to sponsors the formal "cruise nites" around here. Most of them are really just evening car shows with little cruising involved. Being that 1/2 the membership of the club is made up of owners of so-called "lesser" cars we don't have much problem with snobbish behavior....

But I think the cruise scene Shane is refering to is the informal Friday & Saturday night cruising of Albert Street, and hanging out at various burger joints & parking lots. Most of the cars you see at these places are seldom at the more "formal" car shows & cruises. These are trhe guys who like to drive their cars.

Trouble is, as I mentioned earlier, the wannabe "outlaw" bikers seem to determined to spoil it.

That makes sense.

That's really too bad :( I've even noticed that the ricer kids aren't hanging out anywhere anymore either.

Now how come we never saw that Dart while we were there? :(
This is only the third time I've seen the car.

I tried but they didn't turn out :doubt: Very dark green XR7. Almost looked like original paint with black vinyl top that had deteriorated around the back window.

Just about everywhere I have been Taco Bell has been the local ricer hangout. Lame spot but it was that way in Tigard, and Beaverton Oregon as well as Detroit and here in the Soo...wonder what attracts rice to a taco joint:hmmm: :bwuhaha:

Nice rig, but drums? Forsake safety for a small gain? The Wilwoods I have aren't much heavier (if any), than the drums I pulled off.

There are two sonics within a few miles of me that have some good (40-50 car) turnouts. I can never remember to bring the camera though. As said, the rice bikers and their attitudes turn a lot of ppl off. :(

Well - I ain't talkin' about rice bikers. I'm refering to harley-riding, black leather clad, seldom-washed wannabe outlaw thugs. Y'know - the kind that see themselves as some kinda 1 percenter, when in reality if they met the real thing, they would pee their pants.

Crotch - rocket ricers don't do anything worse than drive like idiots & be annoying. These losers are out to f*ck with someone's day - it's their idea of fun.

Which ruin it for people like me who'd like to get on a bike one day :( Those morons make people in cars hate anything on 2 wheels. Not only am I scared about that but just the general bad driving of 99% of people on the road makes me not want to drive anything but something with 4 wheels.

Most of the hd riders out here are pretty cool, don't dick up their day and they won't kill you and rape your women. Most I've met are car guys second.
It's the crotch boys (18-24 yrs old) who think they're someone.
