Kerkorian wants Chrysler!

Kerkorian is a company that wanted to buy chrysler when it was first up for sale. Now that Zetsche has confirmed that chrysler is for sale they put in a bid for $4.5 billion... you can check out the story on www.chryslerweblog.com

He's also the guy that sued damnler when the merger went through and has been trying to get control for about ten years. He's got his hooks pretty deep in gm too iirc.

In that link it stated that he sold all of his stocks in GM.

I wonder if Kerkorian bought Chrysler, if he could talk Bob Lutz in taking control again???

Kirk offered $22.3 billion for Chrysler in 1995 to keep it from the merger. Now he's offering - what $4.7 billion or so. He's wanted Chrysler for many years and has been a massive shareholder in it forever. He was viewed as a butcher in 1995 and would destroy the company so those with sway went with Daimler. 12 years later he seems like Mary Poppins compared to what Daimler did to Chrysler.

I didn't know he sold the gm interest but it wouldn't surprise me if he held a bunch of ford stock right now either. Gotta wonder what that's like, to be in a position of buying and selling huge chunks of some of the biggest companies on the planet. The guy's older than dirt too.

Nah! :D

While the very thought of him buying Chrysler in 1995 ran chills down my spine until I heaved a sigh of relief when Daimler stepped up. Now I am seriously thinking, in all honesty, "How could he possibly do any worse?"
Yes I know the company does put out some very fine quality products that would never seen the light of day given the way they were headed. However, even given its state during the slightly-pre-Iacocca days and the evil ages of the Aries and Relaint that followed - they were not as troubled as they are now. Yes the North American market is in the dumpster and is in more grave danger than most would like to believe and they are doing not as bad (great huh - the top of the top of North American companys and all three of their performances are "not as bad as" comparisons. Anyway the bright light and saving grace of Daimler turned out to be a one way sluice gate for poor old Chrysler. But to stay as the now are will only surely lead to oblivion. At least they have a different, if not any better, chance to go under someone else. They are incapable to try to fly by themselves.

Ranting....anyway give Kirk his kick at the kan.
To quote a golf buddy who years ago just prior to using a 3 wood for the first time from the fairway and drove the ball into the closest tree and back into his guts,"What can go wrong?"

I'd like to see it return to a stand alone company producing cars and hot rod car parts. Total rebuild from the ground up, like hardly davidson did. Would the support from the 'loyal' consumer be strong to buy the first 4-5 years of crap to keep it in business? That's all that saved harley. Risky bet.
This idea that it's some type whole asset to be bought sold flipped trimmed merged, nothing more than a set of numbers on the bottom of a balance sheet has to kill any morale or pride in the workers.
