Jamies '75 Road Runner!

Divorced Bird
Hey all,

Yes I have a REAL RM23 Road Runner! Its a '75 though but thats okay, these cars are my fav. B-Bodies. I like em alot better than Cordobas and Magnums, though the latter two get all the glory. This is the last year of the RR having its own body, and the only year its based on the Fury. Not many were produced making it pretty rare.

This car is original paint and interior, white on white/black with a black stripe. Surpisingly it didnt have the sunset-style stripe on the deck, just the round emblem, or whats left of it. Otherise its pretty well optioned, Buckets, Console, Tuff Wheel, Tach, Sport Mirrors, Magnums, Air, PS, PB, and I think a Sure Grip in the 8 1/4 rearend. Its only 318 powered but thats okay. It seems to run pretty well. It only has 84k on it and has been sitting for awhile.

The story I got with the car is that he quit driving it because the parts store didnt have a Road Runner in their catalog and they refused to sell him one for a Fury because they were afraid of it coming back to them or something. Same dang part, dumb parts guys.

I've had it going on a couple years and sadly its sat out here and worked its way toward the back lots. I had it hid down the alley for the winter months and drove it into the back 40 in March and then last Month I drove it up front.

I finally got tired of it sitting, thats why its up front. I've decided to fix it and drive the snot out of it. As soon as I get some $$ coming in its going to get tuned up and then tagged and insured. Thinking of doing a personal plate on it, something like "RAREBRD", "75 BIRD", or maybe even "FREEBRD" for my favorite song, which coincidently is playing right as I type this!

Anyway enough typing, here are some pics!

I've seen 2, one a show car, (some prints laying around here somewhere) the other was a very rusty driver about 1995 ish.

I test drove a clean 75 fury, 318 tan buckets with console, wanted it bad for a daily but 400 bucks was too much

There was one around here when I first came to Sarnia, in '84. Pretty much identical to that, but had Road Runner on the decklid, following the raised part of the lid.
I thought it was a pretty neat car.
Had a 75 Coronet with a 318, it was a nice car.

There was one exactly like that around town when I was growing up. It was a 318-2bbl car and it rusted away structurally while the owner refused to sell it to someone who would save it. It was eventually scrapped--straight to the crusher.

A few years ago, I found a 400-4bbl '75 Chicken in a junkyard. It was brown with gold stripes, white or tan interior (I can't recall for sure), floor-shift auto with manual steering. I believe that's the only post-'72 B-car I've ever seen with a manual box. Unfortunately, it was also crushed years ago, along with some truly rare cars such as a factory 2-door fastback '68 Newport 383HP car with a two-tone turquoise/white interior, Q5 exterior, and factory woodgrain (yes, on a coupe--the only one I've ever seen) and a seafoam-green, white top/interior 1965 Sport Fury 426 Street Wedge 4-speed car.

Yeah, it would have been a fantastic machine. Sadly, the engine, trans, top and frame, complete interior except the dash structure and pedals, doors, one fender, hood, and decklid were missing along with all of the trim including the grille and taillights. What was left was rusty as hell, but the data tag was there as was the VIN. It was just way, way more than I cared to attempt to restore. Still, it was definitely a cool machine in its day.

Crushed one like that when I worked at the JY back in the day. The 400 was yanked along with all the special badges, it had the sunrise Road Runner decal on the decklid and was column shift with black buckets/buddy seat. The buddy seat now rides around in my car.

was the Runner copper with a off white top? and LRE style rims?

Well that was a Sportsgrain edition 68 Newport....only produced for 1968 and it could be added to any 2dr newport...post, Hardtop or convertible.

Here's a pic of the nicest one I've ever seen...it belongs to one of the members over on the C-bodydry dock board...

That's a pretty cool car, Jamie. Sell your other stuff and put some $ into this one :)

On the Pensacola, FL craigslist was a 1970 (or 71?) 2dr newport 383 4 spd car for $1500. Yep, it was gone less than 24 hrs after it was posted-I tried. The car was running, and from the admittedly limited outside shots they took of it, it looked quite presentable.

nope, show car was black, I so want to say gold stripes, but I bet they were white and the driver in Charles City, ioway was white with black roadrunner stroby things on the trunk.

Jamie, that's a great car.

I'm just starting to restore my 75 RR as well. We are actually starting the photography, documentation and disassembly this week. My car was factory ordered by my father in March 75, and we took delivery on June 4/75. It's Spinnaker white/white interior, with burgundy center console, dash, and carpet. An original 360 c.i. car, optioned with bucket seats, power windows, PS/PB, Sure-grip rear end with 3.23 gear, 14" rallye wheels, full size spare (which was also a rallye wheel), and a rear window defroster. My mother didn't like the look of the tunnel decal in the back, and when my dad ordered the car, the dealership told him he could get the stripe in matching burgundy, but when the car was delivered, it arrived as a stripe delete car because Mopar only made the stripes in black, white, or orange/gold, which could only be had with the "sundance package".
A few 75 facts...these are the last true RR's with RM21 vin's. Only 7419 were made. It was the only year to be based on the new "small" car Fury/cordoba/charger/coronet, but was still known as a B-body. The car shared many similarities to the 73-74 runner, including suspension, wheel base, floor pan. Available engines included the 318 (base engine) up to a 400/4bbl (h.o.) version. All cars were automatics.

I plan on taking some pics this weekend and hpefully post them up. If all goes well my resto should be complete in 2 years (or less). Parts are virtually impossible to find for these cars, so what can't be borrowed from other b-bodies will need to be fabricated. My intention is to have the car shown for the first time in Toronto at Performanceworld 2011. keeping my fingers crossed.

This thread is more than a week old, I don't think Jamie still has that car...
