Abarth will create an “extreme” version of the Fiat 124 Spider that’s coming to the U.S. next year, according toFiat brand chief Alfredo Altavilla. Speaking with British magazineAuto Express,Mr. Altavilla saidthere will be two 124 Spiders, asking, “You want performance?”
Instead of simply tweaking existing Fiat models, Mr. Altavillasees cars created in the spirit of Abarth 695 Biposto (“two-seater” in Italian), a 187-horsepower, 2200-pound street-legal racer that could go from 0-62 mph in under six seconds. Based on the Fiat 500, it was called the Biposto because the rear seats were removed to reduce weight.
