Encountered this at an event at a museum/pioneer village this past weekend.

This is unrestored, wearing it's original paint and still in the hand's of the owner who bought it new....











It's a little rough around the edges, but they are only original once. Other than the wheels, it looks to have had the valve covers painted, and an electronic ignition conversion installed at some point of it's life.
 
That's pretty damned cool, especially the period Keystones. I'd have loved to see an engine shot or 17.
 
Okay. It occured to me that I should have taken closer pics of the engine bay to show how unpainted/unmolested most of it was.



 
Very cool car. Wish they had not painted the valve covers and T-stat housing though. ;) But perhaps it was sporting aftermarket valve covers that looked hideous?
 
I'm sure that was the case. He probably did all the typical stuff done to these cars when new: Chrome valve covers, maybe the water neck, aftermarket air cleaner (methinks it would be in worse shape had that one been on there the whole time, but I could be wrong), and maybe even headers. Small stuff, and easily corrected, but hard to make them not stand out.

Interesting to note it's got a Plymouth pie tin on the air cleaner. Factory misfire? Strong possibility.
 
The only other thing that noticed was a replacement master cylinder. And those red brake drums. :doh: I know it might have been the style 40 yr ago....but come on. :naughty:
 
Well I think it is cool, 'cuz it's his car and it has been for decades. Other than a few wear & tear maintainence things, (looks like the rad may have been done too) it's still like it was a week after he bought it. Red drums and all.....something I only ever thought looked good on black cars.....
 
I like it, a lot.
Nice that the owner has resisted the temptation to over-restore it, leaving it as "his" car.

How many miles on it?

Cars with factory road wheels (sold as Motor Wheel as the Magnum 500) came with the drums painted red so it would show through the slots. Stretch's rear drums were red as well.
 
My low mileage, all original 73 340 RR had red painted rear drums still on it when I got the car.
